Finance Screencast

Introduction

Hi everyone, my name is Michel and I'm currently studying Natural Science at CEGEP. This pre-university program is designed to provide students with a strong foundation on subjects such as Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics. These are taught through a combination of lectures, labs and field trips. Unlike the vast majority of students in my program, I do not wish to pursue studies in medicine or engineering. What excites me more than anything is the world of finance.

I now know that mastering software such as Word or Excel can be very demanding for students.

For the past two years, I always had difficulty making accurate Excel graphics for my Chemistry and Physics laboratory. However, because of my resilience and my patience I managed to improve my skills.

I have now been accepted to the University of Sherbrooke in finance hoping to be a portfolio manager some day. I know that my strengths in Excel will be very useful to me.

I'm here today because I want you to save time learning the basics of this software unlike me.

That's why I want you to pay attention and try to learn something new today.

Are you ready to see how Excel can help you become a better portfolio manager?

The Problem

As a portfolio manager, it's important to be able to analyze data and make informed decisions about investments.

If I'm not skilled enough in Excel, I could miss important trends or make bad investment decisions.

For example, if I don't know how to use Excel to calculate risk ratios, I could end up investing in a risky stock that doesn't fit my client's portfolio

But don't worry, I've found a website that can help me improve my Excel skills and avoid making these mistakes.

The Quest

First of all, I want you to open a new tab. In the top left corner, click on the address bar. Type the following URL, "exceljet.net ".

Welcome to excel jet. As you can see, at the top screen in the middle, there are the navigation menu. You can buy online training or watch free videos about a particular skill you want to learn on excel. Also, excel jet can help you understand complicated functions and formulas. If, you use the scroll bar you can gain access to many of them. Finally, this website is there to help you find shortcuts which can save you a lot of time.

The Solution

Now let's say that you want to calculate the running total of your monthly revenue. Click on the text area, and write as follows: calculate running total. Click on the result of the research and there is your formula. The last thing you have to do is to plug it in your Excel. I've prepared an Excel that contains fictive revenue of a person for each month of the year. All you have to do is to copy the formula that gave you excel jet in the first row just like where they tell you to do it. After, you drag down the little scare to copy the formula for the whole column.

The Conclusion

So, to recap, as a portfolio manager, it's essential to have strong Excel skills in order to make informed investment decisions.

I encourage you to check out excel jet for yourself and see how it can help you improve your Excel skills, whether you're a beginner or an advanced user. Thank you for watching, and I hope you learned something new today.
