Hi everyone! My name is Charlotte Lapierre St-Michel, and I have a really interesting video for you today. For those who don't know me, I have been a college student in Psychology for 2 years now. It is really exciting, but Psychology is a really complicated field. In order to study Psychology, you must have some basis in different subjects because to understand how the human brain works, you have to know all the facets of the human being. For example, you have to take a Human Biology class, which demonstrates the anatomy and physiology of the human body. You also need to take an Anthropology class, which consists in studying the habits of the human being in the past as in the present, etc. The most important thing when studying Psychology is our ability to do extensives research and analysis. Whether it is to establish hypotheses, questions, even diagnoses, which is the identification of an illness by examination of the symptoms, it is important to collect all the relevant information in detailed texts.
Like all of you, or at least the majority, it is essential for me to do my work well to obtain satisfying grades. Of course, it is normal to make some mistakes when writing essays or large research, but it is not a habit to keep.
Obviously, I am no exception to the rule. At the beginning of my studies, it was very hard for me to write without grammar or structural mistakes. I may not have become an expert, but I must say that I have improved greatly.
To give you an idea, my lowest grade was 85% since the last session, which is more than satisfactory.
In this video, my goal will be to show you how I managed to improve my writing skills so that you can use it in your next essays or research.
Take what you need to take notes, and listen carefully.
I can guarantee you that at the end of my video, you will be delighted to have taken this time to listen to me.
As mentioned earlier, in Psychology, research, analysis, texts, and essays are of paramount importance. After graduation, we will still have to use all of these. For example, it will be necessary to be able to write precisely the symptoms of patients like frequent stress, depressive mood, avoidance of certain situations or people, etc. It will also be necessary to be able to write about the psychological state of the patient in order to be able to determine the presence of psychopathology (mental disorder), and then, establish and write the right diagnosis.
If you are not able to write correctly, without grammatical and structural mistakes, it will be difficult to consider yourself a professional, which could seriously affect your reputation as a psychologist or therapist.
For example, suppose you just had a session with one of your patients who mentioned to you that he feels like nobody loves him, and that he's just a waste of time. After reading your notes on what he told you, you have trouble remembering what he has said because all the information is poorly structured. Then, you decide to send him an email to share the date of the next session, but there is a mistake in every word. In addition to showing him that maybe he should have gone to a more competent psychologist, this can also amplify his impression of not being important to people. Imagine, if even his psychologist doesn't take the time to write him a well-written message, what would other people do.
That's why I want to show you a simple and effective tool to avoid that kind of situation.
First, open your browser, then type in the address bar " Virtual Writing Tutor". Click on the first site that appears on your screen.
Once the site selected, it is best to maximize the window. Thus, several categories will appear at the top of your screen. If you look in the top right corner of your screen, you will see a little black circle. You can click on it if you want to create yourself a profile, and see all of your feedback. You can also be part of the membership by clicking on the category next to the black circle (on the left). If you ever run into any technical problems while logging in, you can click on the contact section, at the top of the screen in the middle. For more information on the website, click on the scroll bar, and go down.
Now, you have two options. You can either write your text directly in the square in the middle of your screen. This feature will allow you to improve your writing, check for grammatical errors, and check the quality of your text (check level). Or, the other option is to click on the writing tools section, at the top of the screen in the middle. Once you've clicked on it, a bunch of exercises to practice your writing will appear. You can decide if you want to submit your work or not by clicking on the submit button at the end of your exercise.
So, if you are in Psychology like me or any field that requires online interaction or writing task, that's how you will solve your writing problems. That is what I did, and look where I am now!
