First, for those who do not know what Paralegal Technology is, I am going to do a little intro on the subject, but you can go consult my glossary on my blog to enhance your comprehension. Paralegal Technology is a program in the Law field of study. It's a three-year program, that include an internship. In this program, you learn to do research for a law professional, you learn to filled up documents for the Court and you learn to communicate clearly with the client.

Like everybody, I do not want to be embarrassed by my mistakes, mostly when I am writing to clients or to my colleagues.

I am not the best to write in English, but I use many tools to be better.

I am a student in Paralegal Technology, and I am one of the best in my class!

My goal is to demonstrate you how to correctly use the tools that are accessible to you, to improve your writing. That way, you will be more confident in your capacities.

When you quit school and arrive in the reality, you can easily be overwhelmed by the quantity of work you need to do. As a paralegal technician, you will need to communicate rapidly and without making mistakes with your clients and you will not have much time to revise your work.

If you can not communicate clearly with your clients, you will look unprofessional, unprepared and you will lose credibility.

For example, imagine that you are writing to a woman that wants to divorce her husband. If you mistake the word "buy" for the word "by" simply because you forgot the "u" or because you did not know the proper grammar, she can understand that she needs to buy the lake if she wants the chalet, instead of understanding that it is hers.

Situations like this can be very stressful but do not worry, Your favorite paralegal technician have the perfect tool for you! After you discovered it, you will not be able to work without it anymore! Stay a little longer with me and you know all of my secrets...

First thing first, open your favorite browser. It can by Chrome, Internet explorer or Firefox. I do not recommend using Internet explorer since it is very slow. After, you are going to write "virtualwritingtutor.com" in the address bar. When all the results have load, click on the first one. It should by this one.

In the middle of the screen, you will see a big rectangle that we call a text area were you can copy-paste or write a text that you want to review. You can also listen to it if you click on the little microphone. At the top of the screen, you can see the navigation menu. In this navigation menu, in the middle, you can see the button "writing tools". There are many useful features there, for example the "Job Interview Script Creator" or the "Screencast Script Creator".

Now, I am going to show you what you need to do to obtain fewer grammar errors in your emails or communications with your colleagues or your costumers. First, you are going to copy-paste or to write a text in the text area. Second, you are going to use the "Check Grammar" button, under the navigation menu, at the left of your screen, in the middle, in the tools' menu. When you click on it, your mistakes are going to appear at the bottom of the page. You can now see where are your mistakes, a feedback on your errors, what type of mistake did you make and most importantly, how to correct them. You can now use the scroll bar to come back to the text area by scrolling towards the bottom of the page. Now, you can improve your text by correcting manually your mistakes. Also, at the end of the tools' menu, you can see a blue arrow. If you click on this arrow, other tools appear! You can check your cohesion, print your text, or use an online dictionary by repeating the previous step we did for the grammar check. For example, if I paste this sentence, "My cat are blue" in the text area and I click on the "Grammar Check" button, you can see in the feedback section that my cat is a singular subject, so I need to accord my verb to the 3rd person singular.

In conclusion, if you study in Law or if you want to improve your written English, you can use the "virtualwritingtutor" website to correct your errors. The grammar checker is a useful to send clear and complete emails to your clients and colleagues.
