How to do a good legal research?

Introduction

Welcome everyone! My name is Fabiana if you don't already know.
For those of you who don't know about Paralegal Technology, I'll explain what this program involves.

Everybody working or studying in this field must be extremely specific and picky when they are doing legal research. They don't want to lose their cases or be unable to answer a client's question because the research wasn't good enough.

I'm still a student in this field but I learned a lot already and I have done a lot of research on the subject.

I have been studying in this field for 2 years now.

My goal is to demonstrate how to do good legal research with some pertinent documentations.

Get ready to follow my step-by-step tutorial.

You'll be amazed by how it is easy to do some good legal research.

The Problem

Let me explain the problem. After graduation, we will do a lot of research for some clients or lawyers. Sometimes when they give you a limited time to do these research you can be stressed and can't find the important information for a case.

If you don't know how to search properly, you won't respect the dead lines and find some irrelevant documentations.

Imagine that you have to find documentations about family law for 3 afternoon and its already 11 a.m. and you don't even know where to start.

That can be difficult. But don't worry. When that happens, I know just what to do, which I am going to show you now.

The Quest

First, open your browser. Type this URL into the address bar and hit enter.

The website is in French because our justice law is mostly in French.
When you scroll down, in the middle of the screen, you have a navigation menu to guide you depending on what you are looking for.
For example, on the navigation menu, if you click on the faire une recherche button, in the top of the screen, you have a search bar.
You can write exactly the topic you are looking for.
You have another navigation menu at the middle of the screen.

The Solution

Now click on the question de recherche button. It will be easier to find the right documentations.
You now have to choose a domaine de droit with is the right topic for your case.
For example, click on family at the bottom of the screen.
Let's choose something more specific now because this topic is large. Now click on adoption to find more relevant documentations.
Now you have all the right questions for your case and you have to choose the pertinent one.
Click on the first question at the bottom of the screen.
This question tells you what you have to read and consult to have the right and precise answers for you case.
It tells you the articles, the books and the jurisprudence to read.

The Conclusion

So, if you are in Paralegal Technology or a related field, that's how you solve the problem of having too many irrelevant documentations with this website called Caij.
