Screencast

Introduction

Hi, my name is Giuliano. I study Science at College Montmorency. Science is a 4 session long program, so it takes 2 years to complete. I have been in this program for a little over a year. The main courses of my program are chemistry, biology and physics, biology being the one that interests me the most. I am considering pursuing a career in biology. Biologists need to do a lot of writings such as abstracts, review papers, research proposals and lab reports. To be able to reach a greater part of the scientific community, biologists need to be able to write in English, so I'm going to show you a very useful website that can help you eliminate errors and improve your English writing.

The Problem

Open a new tab in your browser and write VirtualWritingTutor.com in the address bar. You will see the logo in the top left corner of the screen. Under the logo is the navigation menu, you can explore the navigation menu to see all the tools the website offers. In the top right corner you will see a link to login in the navigation menu. In the middle of the screen is the text area. In the bottom right corner of the text area are icons that will help you with your pronunciation. Once you have written your text, you can use the buttons above the text area to correct your text.

The Quest

As an example, I will use part of the introduction of a lab report to show you how to correct your text. First, paste the text you want to correct in the text area. Then click check grammar. The system checks your text for error and automatically gives you feedback. You can change the words with the suggestions the system gives you and try again until your text is error free.

The Solution

The Conclusion

I hope this video will help and encourage you to use the virtual writing tutor. Have a great day and thank you for watching.
