The Police Technology program train students to become police officers. In this program, we take courses like criminal Law, Criminology, and investigation techniques. We also learn self-defense, physical training, and communication skills. These course help to understand crime, stay in good physical condition, and learn how to intervene in different situations. The program prepares us for a career in policing.

Even though I'm not an expert at screen-casting, I have been making screencasts for about 2 years now.

My goal today is to show you how the Virtual Writing Tutor can help me for my future job

As a future police officer in Quebec, I may sometimes need to communicate in English with tourists or English-speaking citizens. However, English is not always my first language, so I could make mistakes in grammar, spelling, or sentence structure when writing messages or emails. This could make my communication less clear or professional.

Therefore, I need a tool that can help me check and improve my English writing.

First, open your browser. Type the URL Virtual Writing Tutor dot com into the address bar and hit "Enter." If you typed the URL correctly, you will see this page.

At the top of the screen, you will see the logo and the navigation menu. On the right hand side, you can see the link to login. Under this there is the navigation menu that show you how the contains of the site. In this area, there is the check box that you can use for your text. Right in the middle of the screen is the text area where you actually right the text you want to checkout. In the bottom of the text area there is the microphone and the text to speech button.

In my future job as a police officer in Quebec, I may sometimes need to communicate in English with tourists or English-speaking citizens. On the Virtual Writing Tutor website, I can use the grammar checker to help me write clearer messages in English. First, you can type your text in the text area and click “Check Grammar”. For example : Hello my name is Simon and I'm a police officer. The system will check my spelling, grammar, and sentence structure. It will tell you how many word you have, how many error you have and it will calculate the error density. It can also gave me feedback of my spelling and the suggestions to correct the sentence like in the example. Moreover, this website can be useful to know how the great pronunciation of a difficult word related to my future job. Just type the word in the text area and click on the text to speech button. It will tell me the good prononciation of the word. So now, I know how to pronounce the words correctly. This tool helps me practice writing in English and communicate more clearly with people who do not speak French.
