Hi everyone, my name is Ludovic Laplante and I am a student in the Geomatics program at Ahuntsic College. It my second years in this program. Geomatics is about the science of the earth. For example, my courses are about surveying, cartography, and GPS.

One's challenge in the field of Geomatics is writing clear and professional technical reports. As future Geomatics technologists, we need to communicate with engineers, surveyors, planners, and sometimes clients. Because of this, grammar and precision are very important.
In Geomatics, we often write field reports, survey summaries, and project descriptions. If our writing is vague, it can create confusion about coordinates, measurements, or mapping data. Evening small mistakes can lead to misunderstandings or delays in a project.

Fortunately, there is a helpful website that can help us improve our writing. It is called VirtualWritingTutor.com.
Virtual Writing Tutor is a free online grammar checker that helps students improve their English writing skills.
When you open the website, you can see a large text box in the center of the page where you can paste the text you want to check. At the top of the page, there is also a menu with different writing tools.
To check your writing, you simply paste your text into the box and click the “Check Grammar” button. The system then analyzes your text and highlights mistakes with different colors. For example, red shows spelling errors, blue shows grammar problems, and green suggests style improvements.

Let’s look at a simple example.
Imagine I wrote a short paragraph about a GPS survey we completed in the field.

After clicking “Check Grammar,” the website shows that “datas” should be written as “data,” and that “results shows” should be corrected to “results show.”

Now the paragraph is clearer and more professional.
