Grammar as a Police Officer

Introduction

Hi, my name is Lucas and I will demonstrate today how the Virtual writing tutor works. I have been studying Police Technology at Ahuntsic College for 1 year now and I really like the program. In fact, in this program we learn all the different aspects of a police officer, from the laws that need to be known or the different techniques that facilitates interactions with the citizens to the physical aspect of the job that needs to be on point. Even if it can sound difficult, this program prepares us to go to the police academy where we will learn a lot more, so it’s just a start.

The Problem

As a policeman I will need to write a lot in French but also in English with the warrants and incident reports that need to be written in a correct English to be presented to the court. That’s how the Virtual Writing tutor can be a useful tool for my future job.

The Quest

First, you need to open your browser and go on the address bar at the top of the screen in the middle. You will need to type in the following URL, VirtualWritingtutor.com like this and when you click on enter on your keyboard, it will open the right website. In the top left corner of the screen you can see the logo and in the top right corner of the screen there is a share option with different social media icons if you want to share this wonderful website on social media. Just below the logo at the top of the screen there is a navigation menu, that presents a lot of functionalities of this website like in the middle of the navigation menu there is an option that is called writing tools that can help the redaction a text when you click on the different options that pop up bellow it. Just under the navigation menu there are some instructions that explains how this part of the website works. Under the instructions there are some options in the forms of buttons that you need to press after writing the text that you need to check up in the text area just below. In the bottom of the text area, there are some examples to have an idea of a text, beside them on the right there is a shortcut to check the spelling of the text after writing it. Also, beside it you can press on the microphone to record yourself talking and it transforms it into text inside of the text area and there is a sound icon that reads you the text to practice your pronunciation. There is also the option to save as a mp3 format or a Word format on the bottoms right of the text area.

The Solution

For my field of study I can copy and paste my warrants or my incident reports in the text area and click on the most useful tool to correct it, and in most cases it would be the Check Grammar button in the top left of the text area to check my errors. For example, if I write in the text area, she saw the guy running past her on December 9th 2019 and press on the check grammar button, it will tell you how many words you have, the number of paragraphs, the error count, the density of errors in your text and it will show you some feedback with the errors need to be corrected. Also, if there are some words that I do not know how to pronounce I can write them in the text area and click on the speech button to listen to the right pronunciation. Like for example, if I write incriminating, I now know how to pronounce it.

The Conclusion

So, that’s how the Virtual Writing tutor works and I only showed the options that are relevant to my field of study and my possible difficulties, but there are a lot of options on this website and it is your turn to explore this wonderful website that’s helps a lot. Thank you for watching and I hope this could help you navigate a bit on this website.
