Since I started flying, I realized that aviation, it's not only about flying the aircraft, but also about communication.

English is very important in aviation, especially on the radio. Because of that, I need to improve my field-related vocabulary to become a safe professional pilot.

Since I began my flight training, I noticed that aviation English is very different from normal English.

Even if I can speak English, there are many technical words that we don't use in everyday conversation.

In Montreal, and aviation in general, communication is often done in English. If I don't use the correct vocabulary, it could create confusion.

In aviation, communication must be clear and precise. It's not just about sounding professional, it's about safety.

For example, if the tower tells me to hold short of runway 24, and I don't fully understand what hold short means, I could accidentally cross the line that could create a dangerous situation.

Also, confusing words like altitude, height, or elevation could lead to misunderstanding. As a student pilot, I cannot afford to make those kinds of mistakes. That's why learning aviation vocabulary is very important.

To improve my field-related vocabulary, I decide to use an online tool. First, I open my browser and go to virtualwritingtutor.com. I type the URL in the address bar and press Enter. When the home page appears, I log into my account.

After logging in, I go to the navigation menu and click on Writing Tools. In the drop-down menu, I say Glossary Creator, then a new page opens, and then I create my own glossary.

Now, I can create my personal aviation glossary. First, I click on New Glossary. I give it a title like Aviation Vocabulary. Then, I start adding new words that I learned in ground school, during my reading, or in my flight training. For each word, I write the aviation term, the definition of my own word, and an example sentence. Writing the definition in my own word helped me really understand it instead of just memorizing it. For example, the term crosswind, the definition would be wind that comes from the side of the runway. An example is the crosswind made the landing more challenging. After writing my entry, I can use the grammar check button to correct my mistake. If I need to change something, I edit it and save it again. When I have added several words, I publish my glossary. The good thing is that I can always update it. Every time I learn a new aviation term, I add it to my glossary. Over time, it becomes a personal reference that helps me feel more confident when speaking English on the radio.

In conclusion, creating a glossary is a simple but effective way for me to improve my aviation vocabulary. It helped me stay organized, avoid misunderstanding, and become a safer and more professional pilot.
