Hello everyone! My name is Adèle, and I am a student in Medical Electrophysiology. This field of study can feel scary just by hearing the name, but let me tell you what it involves. This program focuses on the electrical activity of the heart, the brain, the muscle nerves and a little bit of sleep problems like sleep apnea.

Today, I will talk about a problem that is common when we are in the cardiology department at the hospital. Many patients come in this department to have an electrocardiogram. It is a quick test that involves putting electrodes on the chest, on each arm and each leg to get a look at the electrical activity of the heart. However, it is possible that the test result is ambiguous, and we do not know if the patient should stay at the hospital to be seen by a doctor. For example, my patient has an irregular heart rate, but I'm not sure if it is an atrial fibrillation.

If we do not know the answer to the test right away, we could send a patient home with a serious heart arrhythmia that could be life-threatening.

When that happens, I know what to do, which I am going to show you now.

First, open your browser. Type this URL into the address bar and hit enter. Then, click on the first website that appears at the top.

When you get on the website, you will see in the middle that you can participate at different courses related to the heart animated by a doctor. You can also get a membership that will give you access to a more detailed theory related to the heart field. In the top right corner, you can see the cardiologist who created this website, Pierre Taboulet. When you scroll a little bit down, on your right, there is a quiz to test your knowledge about the electrical activity of the heart. On the left, there is a Youtube video to educate you about heart disease and the one right under is a video-quiz to test your knowledge while teaching you about heart disease.

Now here is where you want to go to find the solution to the specific problem I mentioned before. Scroll back at the top and on the left of the screen, you will see "Thèmes ECG". Click on "arythmie supraventriculaire". Then, a list of all the supra ventricular arrhythmia will appear at your left. This is where you can verify if your patient's ECG result is what you think it is or not. For example, I think my patient has an irregular heart rate and I think it looks like an atrial fibrillation, just click on "fibrillation atriale ECG" and all the theory related to that arrhythmia will appear. The website gives a lot of different examples for each arrhythmia and various results you can get. So, I can conclude that my patient's ECG result is serious and I should call a doctor right away.
