Hey, guys! My name is Simone, and I have been a student in the Science, Letters and Arts program for about a year now.
In this program, we take Art and Arts History classes that are often disliked. Why? Because to do well in these classes, you need to have a lot of general knowledge about art. These classes help if you are planning to go in a career in the art world like a gallery manager or, if you just want to look like a more interesting candidate for universities.
At first, I was struggling too. I didn't know a lot about art, so it was hard to keep up. However, even though I'm not an expert, I was able to do well in these classes thanks to the help one simple app.
If you have the same problem as me and as a lot of students in this program, I am going to show you a tool that will make your life easier.
So, get ready to follow my step-by-step tutorial.
In art classes, we often have to do works that describes and explains works of art. But here's the catch, teachers often choose less famous paintings or works from complex movements like the Renaissance or Baroque.
The problem is that you get a picture of a painting, but you don't know who made it, when it was created, what it's called, the movement it belongs to, the materials used or where it is now. All of the information can take hours to find, especially when you don't know where to start.
For example, suppose the teacher gives you a picture with a painting on it, and you have no idea who made it, well you feel stuck because not only you don't know who did the painting, but you still need to find the information on this painting.
But don't worry, I have found a solution.
The app that helped me a lot during my last semester and will probably help you is called Smartify. To have it, you go to the App Store or Google Play Store depending on your phone. Search Smartify and download it (it's free). Once it is installed on your phone, open it up.
When it's open, you will see the Home Screen that features exhibitions and collections from around the world. At the bottom of the screen, there are several icons. The one next to the Home button is the search function. There, you can look up artists, styles, or works directly. In the middle at the bottom, there is a scan icon. When you tap on it, your camera will open, and you can point your phone at any painting. Smartify will recognize it with seconds, and give you a detailed description. In the bottom right corner there is the library tab where you can view all the artworks, museums or artists that you have saved or scanned. In the top right corner, you will find two icons one that is a heart to save artworks you like in the library and there is link icon you can tap to share the artwork. To the left of the Library icon, there is also a store icon, where you can buy printings of art pieces.
Step 1: Open the app and tap on the Scan button
Step 2: Scan the artwork by pointing you phone at the image of the painting the teacher gave you, now wait for a second and there you go! Smartify recognizes it.
Step 3: get the information (the date, artist, the name, technique used, where the artwork is located)
Step 4: save it for later (click on the heart icon, and you will be able to find it later in your library)
