Hello everybody, my name is Nicolas Lim, I'm a student in computer science at Ahuntsic College and welcome to the video on how to install Linux.
Firstly, we, as people who live in a society, don't like to our freedom to be violated. We want to be our own author of our data and works. Nobody wants to be monitored or spied. But the easiest thing required the most risks, just like Windows. It's our rights and freedom not to be restrained of our creativity. Yet, there's still a lot to lean from it.
I have always been impressed in the computer space since I was really young, and I have only been studying computer science for 1 year now, but I want to expend my creativity and imagination to the limit if I want to make a big impact for our personal information to not get monetized and controlled.
I have participated in many Game Jam by competing against other developers in the video game scenery. I know and understand a lot of commands and codes for a computer. I made a video game project back in secondary school in a free open software and got a very high score of 80%.
My goal is to show how to install and choose a Linux distro which is the start of liberty and happiness. Unfortunately I will not cover on how to use it, since it's a very complex area that could talk for many hours, and it will also counter my arguments on using your own intelligent to find your liberty and happiness.
The installation process will be very easy if you follow this step-by-step tutorial.
I hope this video will enlight your imagination, spark your creativity and ignite your dreams, because after that no one else will stop the next adventure that you are about to begin after discovering this amazing OS.
Yes, we may not have a lot of times of using and learning a so say complicated OS like Linux, but it is not better to have a bloated desktop that confused and annoyed us like Windows.
If we can't control our work of space, our intelligence, our data, our creativity or everything else will be denied. We'll be nothing more than pawns in the face of the power of the big tech industries.
Imagine that you came back from work and all you want to do is to watch a video of a funny cat dancing, but you have to update Windows. After that update you have to sign up to all their cloud services, the preinstalled software like outlook, copilot or teams that automatically open when you boot up your PC, the notifications that just pop out of nowhere, the ugly and sometimes beautiful wallpapers that changes every day and all the other nonsense and shenanigans that Microsoft like to just blow out of the blue and I don't even want to talk about Edge.
Yes, we can argue that we can just install a debloater that removes all these features from Windows, but from my expertise, we better just be installing a new OS which will only take a few minutes.
There's a lot of Linux distro, like Ubuntu, Kali Linux or Arch, but I will just show my preferred one which is Fedora, where it can be accessed through this link.
https://www.fedoraproject.org/
In the top right corner of the screen there are five options. You can also scroll down to see more option.
To download Fedora you will have to scroll down, find Fedora Workstation, press on "Download Now" and choose one to download based on your central process unit or CPU. After the download completed, you will have to flash on the operating system using a tool for it. I suggest you BelenaEtcher.
Choosing open source software is choosing a happiness that is not artificial by the power of the big tech. Happiness does not reside in an illusory comfort, but by our capacities to think, create, share and live while being free.
For your work, I will ask you to just learn how to use this amazing operating system, by learning the command and understanding it. The dark ages of Windows are gone, and what I always like to say: by us, for us and never for them.
