Introduction

Hello, future radiologic technologists! Welcome to my screencast. My name is Saira, and I’m a first-year radiology student at Ahuntsic College in Montreal, Quebec. For those who don't know, Quebec is a bilingual province where both French and English are spoken. While French is the primary language, it’s essential for us to learn medical terminology in both languages.

The issue here is the following. We get confused using some medical terms. Sometimes, we can have a hard time pronouncing them properly, or we don't know the definition. This can be a little confusing. Don't you think it can be a little embarrassing as well. But nobody is perfect.

Considering that I'm only in my first year, I face a lot of difficulty already. I just started, and I can see how demanding this program is. The course requires a lot of hard work. Even with all of the obstacles I want to persevere. I am at the begging of my journey, but I already have a mention of excellence that was given to me by 2 of my teachers. Let's be honest, the road to success is by taking one day at a time and to not rush greatness.

Last semester I got 90% and higher in all of my labs.
Many of my teachers have mentioned that I communicate in a great way with my patients.
I was also recognized for being actively engaged in lectures and for my ability to lead a team effectively.

My goal is to help you use the correct medical terminology with confidence. I want to ensure that you not only understand the terms but also use them properly in context. Additionally, I’ll help you pronounce them correctly and provide French synonyms to support bilingual students who may be struggling.

The Problem

Let me explain the problem. After graduation, many of us plan to go directly into the job market. As soon as we start working, we’re immediately faced with medical terms at the hospital or in private clinics. No matter where you choose to work, you’ll be required to know and use all the terms listed in this glossary. It’s your responsibility to learn them and use them correctly. Fortunately, I’ve made it easier for you to learn and master them!

If you don’t know the true definition of the words used in this field, your employer won’t be satisfied, and this could lead to serious consequences—for both the patient and your career. Proper understanding and usage of medical terminology are crucial to ensuring patient safety and professional success.

For example, suppose you need to take an X-ray and the doctor requires that you give the patient a contrast agent. If you don't know what that means, you won’t be able to administer it properly. This not only gives a bad impression of your work, but it can also prolong the process of taking the X-ray. As we know, many patients already feel uncomfortable coming in for X-rays because of how long the procedure can take. Being confident and knowledgeable about the terms and procedures ensures efficiency and builds trust with your patients.

The Quest

On the left side of the screen, you can see the medical terms used in this field of study.

In the middle of the screen, you’ll find the definition of each word. To use a term correctly, we must first understand its true meaning. Below the definition, I’ve included an example of how the term can be used in context.

Underneath the example, I’ve added the French translation to help you distinguish between the English and French terms. This can also be useful if you’re more comfortable in French and need help understanding the English term.

Finally, at the bottom, I’ve included an audio pronunciation guide from Google to help you say the word correctly.

The Solution
