Hi friends! I’m back with a new video for you today! If you’re new here, my name is Lia Jamison Chalifoux.
For those of you who haven’t heard about Virtual Writing Tutor, I’ll just take some time to explain what it is. The program gives you many courses that focus on English language skills. The goal is to help you upgrade your communication skills. In today’s world, your communication skills will help you land a job and be successful in a multitude of ways.
Like everyone else, I want good grades in school. I don’t want to get a low score on an assignment because of silly mistakes. Of course, we all want to succeed at school. There are obstacles that must be overcome, however. None of us want to see embarrassing errors in our work. If you are like me, you want them removed.
I've been learning English for a while. I'm motivated because I really want to see the world, so I've been working hard on my English. I've improved since High School, but I'm still not the best in class, and I struggle to be fluent when I speak. I'm not an expert, but I've been doing a lot of research lately, and it seems like there is a lot I don't know yet.
I have a lot to be grateful for. Studying English as a foreign language has been a valuable way to open up new worlds, meet great people, have more job offers, and broaden my horizons. Since I’ve started my English practice, I've been able to make a lot of friends. I’ve also increased my knowledge of the world. Plus, it's also nice to feel more confident when I am in a different state! My communication skills have greatly improved as well. Since I have more tools in my language toolbox, I can be a more effective communicator.
My ultimate goal here is to help you improve your knowledge of English, like I would have liked to be shown when I was starting out. I'm going to show you how easy it is to use this website with a screencast.
The tutorial won't be very long, so sit back and get comfortable. I'm going to show you how everything works, step by step.
Stay till the end, I have a surprise for you
Right now with all of our courses, we don't really have time to study English or to really practice. So even with our English class, it's not very effective.
Let me explain a possible problem with this situation.
Once, I get my degree, I will be able to start working with some clients. Even though I have my degree, my career could be negatively affected by my English.
In my future career in Psychology, if I don't speak English fluently, it could negatively affect my life .
I would be limited.
Imagine that a patient really need somebody to talk to and every psychologist are not available to have this particular client. But, you have a free space in your agenda, so you could help this person. Also, you need to make money to survive, but this client speaks only Enlish. You don't speak English very well, so you won't be able to help this patient correctly.
When that happens, I know now what to do, which I am going to show you.
In your browser, type this URL into the address bar. When you hit enter, you should see this page if the URL was entered correctly.
Once you this page is open, you should see a big logo of Virtual Writing Tutor in the top left corner of the screen.
At the top screen in the middle, you should see the navigation menu. There are two kinds of navigation menu. One where the choices are more global, the other is more specific. The one at the top of the screen, can also help you if you want to learn about the website.
Under the first navigation menu, you have more specific choices depending on your needs.
Right in the middle of the screen you should see the space where you actually write your text.
For example, I personally think that the tool that will be the most useful in my field of study; Psychology will be the grammar checker.
You just have to write a sentence you want to diagnostic and click on the grammar check. For example, I have a appoinment with my patient at two.
Right away, if you click on the check grammar it takes you down directly for feedback. You just have to scroll down a little bit, and you will see all the feedback it really gives you. It will tell you how many words you have, how many paragraphs, how many errors and on the same little paragraph, it will tell you your error density. Also, it will explain you one-by-one the mistakes you made.
In addition to this, if you are not sure how to pronounce the phrase you can simply click on the speech button.
I hope this will help you practice your communication skills with your field of study.
