This program teaches students in the legal field, so they can help legal professionals. For example, they learned how to do legal research, Analyze the content of documents or find legal solutions. We learn so many things at the same time that sometimes it becomes hard to be able to do everything at once.

Despite that, I managed to complete many assignments by doing good research and combining all the elements I learned.

Today, my goal is to help every paralegal do it.

Paralegals never stops learning and growing in their profession. You have to keep up with new laws, changes in rules, and different legal trends.

It's all about improving your skills, so you can help lawyers and clients the best way possible.

A paralegal can work in different areas. So, it often happens that they must do research in a certain area to do their job well. They are always learning and has to learn how to be their own teacher.
Now, becoming a good paralegal is all about research. You can't just rely on what you know, you need to be curious and explore different sources.

This means that without knowing it, they may be forced to talk about legal topics they are not familiar with.

For example, your boss may ask you to assist a client who needs help with civil liability. So, you would need to do research to be prepared.

To do this, you have many sources at your disposal. The first one is CAIJ.

Today, I'm going to teach you how to use it.

How do we use this website?

The word CAIJ means in French: Centre d'accès à l'information juridique. It's like a large online library where you can find legal information. It's not hard to find this website because, during our studies, it's the site we are taught to use. To find the site, it's easy. You just need to go on the internet and type "CAIJ" in the search bar.

After that, look at the top right of the screen and click on the button : Log in to espace CAIJ.

Now, when the new page opens, we can observe several things. First, in the navigation menu: here you can write everything and then select the word that you want. After that, you can select what you are exactly looking for doctrine, case law, or legislation, or simply choose nothing.

For example, I can write civil liability. In the new page, you can the scroll bar and look at the left. There you will find different selections allowing us to specify our search to help us. So, we can first select the source of law if it hasn't been done already, choose the dates, decide if the doctrinal work is better found in the library or online, and continue to specify our personal choices if we wish. This website is particularly great because it searches as much as possible for what we ask to help us. For example, if we continue with 'civil liability,' I can choose an online doctrine in the province of Quebec, and it gives me so many choices related to my request. After that, I can use the scroll bar and choose the doctrine I prefer and then read it.


Also, on this website, there are many other interesting features, especially when you look at the top left of the screen and select CAIJ, or you can click on the back arrow button. You can click on research question, or search for questions related to your topic, or even look at the legal dictionary for examples. And now I click on the address bar 'civil liability'.
