My name is Thomas Couture and I work in the HR department of our insurance company, Fix it.

My task for today is to write a report for an incident in the software department.

This way, I can report the facts and let my superiors find the best course of action

The software department is in charge of managing and maintaining the website through which our clients make their payments. Since we are a successful company, thousands of dollars are flowing through every day. Therefore, it is important that the site always works. Recently, however, one of our interns discovered a virus in the program that, similar to a parasite, would take a few cents out of every linked account. It was not enough for anybody to notice, but, over time, it added up to hundreds of thousands of dollars deposited in an offshore account. It was later discovered that the head of the department was the one to have installed it when he tried to blackmail the intern. Luckily, she did not give in and came to us instead. We have also discovered that a man on the outside had bribed him to install said virus, and was the owner of aforementioned offshore back account.

If this situation is leaked to the public, there will be severe repercussion for us. Hundreds of thousands of dollars cannot be hidden from the IRs, and, if we are found out, anybody who is evened remotely involved will face jail time

In the eyes of the company, the clients will lose their trust, we will be in legal trouble and, worst of all, we will lose a lot of money.

However, I will offer a solution that will potentially get us out of this mess

It is quite simple, we need to fire this man and go public about the incident. This situation is bound to spiral out of control one way or another. He will get his own version of the story out first or somebody will leak it to the press. Which is why we must act first. If we can reimburse our clients and report the corrupt official to the authorities, we will ensure that we had nothing to do with the crime and our investors will lose a minimal amount of trust in us, which simply cannot be avoided. Furthermore, by going public, we will ruin the reputation of that criminal, and he will never be able to hold a job. This will serve as a warning for anybody who ever tries something even remotely similar to what he did; we do not ignore corruption.

By taking this course of action, I believe we can reduce the blow-out of this incident to a minimum, and the harsh nature of this punishment will prove that corruption must be uprooted and destroyed, no matter it's origin. If it is not, it will spread wherever it can until we lose every value we have ever pretended to hold dear. We must act with a firm and steady hand as soon as possible
