This Glossary could be helpful to Paralegals or Legal Assistants. Some words frequently used in the world of law will be defined.
Bailiff
noun
An official in a court of law who keeps order, looks after prisoners, etc.
Example: The execution was served, and the bailiff remained in charge.

Court Minute
Court minute
The record of courtroom proceedings, such as the start and recess of hearings and trials, names of attorneys, witnesses and rulings of the court, kept by the clerk of the court or the judge.
Example: The court minutes must mention the name, first name, age, profession, place of residence and oath of the interpreter, who must sign the minutes.

Docket
noun
The list or schedule of court cases to be heard on a particular day.
Example: Many cases filed by dissatisfied customers remain on the court docket.

Hearsay
noun
Unverified, unofficial information gained or acquired from another and not part of one's direct knowledge:
Example: Weidenthaler, through his attorney, has asked the judge to rule that the text conversation is hearsay and should be excluded as evidence.

Oath
noun
A solemn promise, often invoking a divine witness, regarding one's future action or behavior.
Example: When our elected representatives assume their respective offices, they take an oath to “protect and defend the Constitution.”

Remand
Noun
1- To send back, remit or consign again;

Example: 1- On December 17, 1993, the panel issued its decision on remand.

Remedy
noun
A remedy is ordered by the Tribunal at the conclusion of a hearing if the Tribunal finds that the Applicant’s rights under the Code have been violated. The remedy can be an order enforcing the Applicant’s rights or can be redress or compensation for the violation. Remedies may be financial, or non-financial. Examples of remedies include monetary damages, public interest remedies, and interim remedies.
Example: The lawsuit argues that the state Supreme Court has already ruled that such a remedy doesn't exist, while the earlier ballot curing lawsuit in Montgomery County's Common Pleas court made a 14th Amendment argument.

Submission
noun
Similar to argument; the address or presentation of the parties to the court at the end of a particular proceeding, after the evidence has been presented and before the court is to make its decision; an opportunity for the parties to summarize the issues, evidence and law and to persuade the court to make a decision in their favour;
Example: The judge upheld that submission, and the respondents were found not guilty.

Willfully
adverb
Referring to doing something intentionally, purposefully and stubbornly.
Example: He drove the car willfully into the crowd on the sidewalk.

Withdrawal
noun
Where an Applicant decides they no longer wish to proceed with their application.
Example: Johnson’s office said the proposed law creates a “safety net” and removes “ambiguities” in the text of the withdrawal agreement.
