My name is Karima Assih, and this is my electrical engineering glossary.I am studying electrical engineering, with a focus on automation and control.I chose this program because I am interested in technology and I enjoy understanding how electrical systems work.The purpose of this glossary is to help me learn and understand important technical words that I will use in my studies and future career.
Actuator
Noun
a mechanical or electro-mechanical device that converts an energy source and a control signal into physical movement or mechanical force
Example: The actuator moves when it receives a signal

Circuit
Noun
Closed loop made of conductors (like wires) and a power source (like a battery) that lets electric current flow to power a device, such as a light bulb
Example: Gurney flaps can be added to the back of the top wing, and the angle of tilt varied from race to race depending on the amount of down force required for that particular CIRCUIT

Noun
a device or unit that governs the operation, power delivery, or performance of an electrical system or piece of equipment
Example: The results obtained from the simulation were then compared to the behaviour predicted by the calculations carried out initially, as well as allowing for a comparison between the different types of CONTROLLER

The standard unit of frequency, where 1 Hz equals one complete cycle per second
Example: The FREQUENCY of the signal is 60 Hz

a set of practices, rules, and devices designed to protect people and property from hazards like electric shock, burns, fires, and explosions
Example: SAFETY is important when working with electrical equipment

Example: The SENSOR detects when something is in front of it

Verb
It is a logical, step-by-step process of finding what is broken in a system, machine, or software.
Example: I had to TROUBLESHOOT the machine to find the problem.

the difference in electric potential energy between two points, acting as the "pressure" or "push" that drives electrical current through a circuit
Example: The VOLTAGE of the circuit is 24 volts
