Arid is an adjective that means extremely dry or lacking enough rain and water to support plant life.
Example: How the water supplies and water-related disease in semi-ARID areas such as the grasslands of Africa, North East China, The Mediterranean and parts of Australia will be affected by the changes is investigated in this report.

An atmosphere is the layer of gases surrounding Earth or another celestial body, held in place by gravity.

The biosphere is the global ecological system combining all living organisms and the places where they live.

Drainage means the natural or artificial removal of water or other liquids from an area.

The equator is an imaginary line drawn around the middle of the Earth at 0 degrees latitude, located halfway between the North Pole and the South Pole.
Example: Hurricanes begin over the ocean near the EQUATOR as they need the heat of the ocean and the rotation of the earth to form; these areas are often close to areas inhabited by coral reefs as they also require the warm waters.

Erosion is the natural process where water, wind, ice, or gravity wears away rock and soil from the Earth's surface and moves them to a new location.
Example: With land clearance, there are no roots to protect the soil from water EROSION.

Evaporation is the process where a liquid changes into a gas or vapor at temperatures below its boiling point.
Example: Because vacuum chilling lower the temperature of the food by losing some of its energy in the form of latent heat during EVAPORATION, the final weight of the product were less than that of the fresh produce.

Precipitation is any form of water, like rain, snow, or hail, that falls from clouds to the ground.
Example: Fitting a linear regression shows evidence of a marked increase in winter PRECIPITATION and decrease in summer PRECIPITATION, and to a lesser extent an increase in spring PRECIPITATION and decrease in autumn PRECIPITATION.

A riverbank is the sloping land or ground along the edge of a river that holds the water within its natural channel.
Example: Other aspects to be looked into are, whether the property will be in an Area of outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), on the Oxford Green belt and within 50m meters of a RIVER BANK, 500m of Ancient Woodland, 25m of a Public Footpath and 50m of a Tree Preservation Order (TPO).
