My name is Éliot I am currently in natural sciences at the cegep, but I am planning to do mechanical engineering at the university. I create this glossary for everyone, people who have studied and haven't studied in engineering. It will provide some terms that can be used in a life of an engineer or reports. I used google to find the definitions of those words and also used it to find some of those words. After reading this glossary, you should be able to understand most of the reports that mechanical engineers writes.

alloy: noun; Substance made by mixing two or more elements with at least one being a metal usually by melting them together.; Example: The engine was mainly consisted of cast iron block and an aluminum ALLOY cylinder head.; fr: alliage
calibration: verb; Calibration is the process of comparing a measuring tool or device against a known reference standard to check its accuracy and fix any errors.; Example: This is a much larger percentage error than that produced by the fitting the CALIBRATION.; fr: étalonnage
electromechanics: noun; Electromechanics is a field of engineering and science that combines electrical and mechanical principles to build devices that create motion or power.; Example: The Porsche engineers used electromechanics to make sure that the car would run perfectly.; fr: électromechanique
frequency: noun; How often a repeating event or action happens within a specific period.; Example: Williams does in Adaptation and Natural Selection: I use the term gene to mean 'that which segregates and recombines with appreciable FREQUENCY.; fr: fréquence
gear: noun; Gear primarily means a toothed wheel used in a machine to transmit power and motion, or the specific equipment and clothing needed for an activity.; Example: Straight spurs gears would be the best combination to employ as such arrangement could provide a more convenient procedure in further analysis. Conceptual Design (Initial Layout) Before the commencement of design analysis process, the initial layout of the product was illustrated (Figure 1) and the gearbox housing was represented by the grey rectangle. From the diagram, power was transmitted from the AC motor to GEAR 2 through the shaft and GEAR 2 was then connected to GEAR 3. Again, power was transmitted through the shaft from GEAR 3 to 4 and GEAR 4 was connected to GEAR 5. Finally, power was transmitted from GEAR 5 to the grinder through the shaft. machining: verb; A manufacturing processes that uses machine tools to cut, shape, and remove material from a larger piece of raw material to create a precise final part.; Example: Similarly, the finishing, MACHINING, bending, assembly, and packaging operations are much less energy intensive than the main production processes and will not be included in the assessment (except for the cardboard package material).Transport of the chair includes trucking from the factory to the port, sea freight and trucking from the docks to the warehouse store.; fr: usinage
maintenance: noun; Maintenance is the routine work and care done to keep equipment, buildings, or systems in good working condition.; Example: MAINTENANCE of the ewe. The ewe will continue to require a sufficient level of energy for her own MAINTENANCE.; fr: entretien
material handling: noun; Material handling is the movement, protection, storage, and control of goods and products through every stage of the supply chain, from raw materials to final disposal.; Example: The company invested in automated conveyors and forklifts to speed up its daily material handling operations.; fr: manutention
mechanism: noun; A mechanism is a set of moving parts in a machine or a planned system of steps used to get a result.; Example: MECHANISM OF ROTATION The rotation of the c n Î³Îµ subunits of ATP synthase has a very high mechanical efficiency.; fr: mécanisme
piston: noun; A piston is a sliding cylindrical part inside a larger hollow cylinder that moves back and forth to transfer force between a fluid and a machine.; Example: Horsepower can be increased by increasing the PISTON's bore and decreasing the size of cylinders as these will improve the volumetric efficiency of the engine.; fr: piston
pressure: noun; Pressure is the amount of physical force applied to a surface divided by the area over which that force is spread.; Example: Under increased grazing PRESSURE, bushes have decreased and recruitment prevented.; fr: pression
propulsion: noun; Propulsion means the action, process, or physical force of pushing or driving an object forward.; Example: As discussed in section 0 the origin of multi-disk pump originated from Nikola Tesla, who issued patents on variations of the design, one for "Fluid PROPULSION" and the other for a "Turbine".; fr: propulsion
pump: noun; A pump is a mechanical device that moves, raises, or compresses fluids and gases.; Example: Overall the process ensures a 'carbon dioxide concentrating PUMP' fuelled by ATP.; fr: pompe
regulations: noun; A regulation is an official rule or order made by an authority—such as a government agency—to control behavior, manage a system, or direct how something is done.; Example: A risk assessment is a legal requirement since the introduction of the Management of Health and Safety at Work REGULATIONS 1992 , and covers the employer should an accident occur, provided necessary and reasonable planning has been put into action to minimise harmful possibilities and outlines any safety equipment required.; fr: réglementation
strength: noun; Strength means the quality or state of being strong, including the capacity to exert physical or mental force, endure pressure, or resist breaking.; Example: The relative response of a compound can be calculated by measuring the response of a known quantity of known STRENGTH.; fr: résistance
torque: noun; Torque is the rotational equivalent of linear force—essentially a twisting or turning forces that causes an object to rotate around an axis or pivot point.; Example: We chose to use a non-inverting op amp as this will amplify the signal and will give a positive value for a positive TORQUE.; fr: couple
valve: noun; A valve is a device that controls, starts, stops, or regulates the flow of liquids, gases, or loose materials through a pipe or passageway.; Example: The 32-VALVE, 330 cubic-inch, 90-degree all-aluminum V8 engine was placed behind the driver in order to lower the centre of gravity of the vehicle.; fr: soupape
vibration: noun; Vibration means a continuous, fast, and slight shaking movement or mechanical oscillation of an object back and forth around a central point.; Example: In this assignment, to avoid ambiguity, I will use the terms fortis and lenis to refer to the phonemic pairs in English obstruent sounds, embracing all the phonetic features that they display, and voice and voicing to refer to the specific phonetic feature of vocal fold VIBRATION. 4.0 Initial obstruents Since voice plays a variable role in lenis consonants and is frequently absent with no effect on perception, how do we define the difference between fortis and lenis?; fr: vibration
work: noun; physical or mental effort used to do, make, or achieve something.; Example: It is essential that they do agree in a business like this as each worker is responsible for a whole enterprise on the farm, and if the lose motivation it will most likely result in the failure of that enterprise.
