This glossary as for goal to help people learn term related to the fields of geomatics. I researshed the word on google, personal reading and other glossary list of term common in the fields.
Atlas
A bound collection of maps or charts, often including supplementary geographical, statistical, or historical data.
contour line
a line on a map connecting points of equal elevation
Data Flow
describes how information moves between systems, applications, and processes, and how that data is transformed or processed along the way
Digital Terrain Model
a 3D digital representation of a landscape's "bare-earth" surface. It maps topographic features (like hills, ridges, and valleys) while completely stripping away artificial structures (buildings, bridges) and natural obstructions (trees, vegetation)
Digitization
Digitization is the process of converting physical, analog information (such as paper documents, photographs, or audio tapes) into a digital format made up of \(0\text{s}\) and \(1\text{s}\). This allows computers and digital devices to store, process, and share the data efficiently
Entity/Feature
A person, place, thing, or concept (like a customer or product) about which data is stored in a database.
Extent
the physical size, area, or range covered by something, as well as the degree or limit to which something extends
Hydrography
the science of measuring and describing the physical features of bodies of water—such as oceans, seas, lakes, and rivers—and their adjacent coastal areas
Interpolation
a mathematical and statistical method used to estimate an unknown value that falls between a discrete set of known data points
Metadata
Metadata is "data about data", structured information that describes, explains, locates, or manages other data to make it easier to retrieve, use, or manage. It provides crucial context regarding a data asset's creation, format, and content without being part of the content itself, such as a photo's timestamp or a book's author.
Noise
In technical fields, it refers to unwanted, meaningless signals or interference in an electronic system or data.
Orthophotography
the process of capturing and geometrically correcting aerial or satellite images. Commonly known as orthorectification, this technique removes distortions caused by camera tilt, terrain relief, and lens optics. The resulting photo serves as a highly accurate, measurable map
Photogrammetry
the science and technology of capturing and stitching overlapping photographs together to extract precise measurements and generate accurate 2D and 3D digital models of real-world objects, environments, and surfaces
Polygon
a flat, two-dimensional (2D) geometric figure formed by a finite sequence of straight line segments connected to form a closed chain
Raster
a digital image or data structure composed of a rectangular grid of pixels (tiny, colored squares)
