Hi, my name is Étienne. I have been studying Civil engineering from the past 3 years. I made this glossary for my own knowledge and for helping the younger generation. It is very important to find the right word when you explain to a client because the profession is very technique. This glossary contains 15 words that includes definition, the spelling word, an example, the translation in French and an image. The words are selected by me and the definition are found on the internet. My glossary will be for the future students from this particular program. It's time after all this talk that you check below my work!
beam
noun
A long, sturdy piece of squared timber or metal spanning an opening or part of a building, usually to support the roof or floor above.
Example: The required formula for calculating the displacement is Where The Young's modulus for the rod is the same as the simply-support beam.

concrete
noun
A heavy, rough building material made from a mixture of broken stone or gravel, sand, cement, and water, that can be spread or poured into molds and that forms a mass resembling stone on hardening.
Example: The multiplicity of linear and rotary motions in robotic mechanisms, to high force required for concrete breaking pneumatic drills.

crank
noun
A hand tool consisting of a rotating shaft with parallel handle.
Example: This allows the mechanism to be evaluated for any crank angle, velocity, acceleration or force by changing the initial input values.

flow rate
noun
Flow rate is the volume or mass of a fluid (liquid or gas) that passes through a specific cross-sectional area per unit of time.
Example: Flow meter (or other means of gaining flow rate) The non-scientific approach to measuring the flow rate of the pump will be utilised.

grain size
noun
Grain size (or particle size) is the diameter of individual grains of sediment, or the lithified particles in clastic rocks.
Example: A reduction in grain size caused by increased cooling rate results in an increased strength and hardness.

joist
noun
A length of timber or steel supporting part of the structure of a building, typically arranged in parallel series to support a floor or ceiling.
Example: I design the joists.
