This glossary will define words related to interior design with a definition and a picture but will also give examples on how to use them and how to correctly pronounce them.

colour rendering index

The Colour Rendering Index (CRI) is a 0–100 scale measuring a light source’s ability to reveal the true colors of objects compared to a natural light source (sunlight).
Example: Using fixtures with a low colour rendering index made the living room furniture look dull, so we upgraded to warmer, high-CRI lighting.

colour temperature

Color temperature is a way to describe the light appearance provided by a light bulb. It is measured in degrees of Kelvin (K) on a scale from 1,000 to 10,000.
Example: The designer recommended a consistent color temperature throughout the open-concept floor plan to avoid a disjointed aesthetic.

An architectural design technique featuring a suite of rooms with doorways aligned on a single axis, creating a direct, long-distance vista through the entire space.
Example: The master suite is arranged as an enfilade, with the bedroom, dressing room, and bathroom connected in a linear sequence.

A house attached to a farm, especially the main house in which the farmer lives.

The primary area, element, or feature that immediately draws a viewer’s eye, acting as the visual "star" or anchor of a room or composition.
Example: An oversized, vibrant piece of art can serve as an effective focal point in an otherwise neutral bedroom.

Relating to minimalism in art or music.
Example: They said they had stayed at a Meridien Art & Tech (a new concept by Meridien where the hotel is inspired in MINIMALIST art allied with the newest of technologies-having extremely high standards and operating based on a different concept than Dona Filipa!) in Asia and enjoyed it very much; the gentleman said that money was not an issue, however, they would like to see the room before deciding.

Example: Some MODERN fencing materials are used but long term dry stone walls are the preferred option.

Example: The manufacturing methods that would possibly be employed in fabricating this system would include carpentry for the drum system, casting, forging, cutting, for the iron components and MOULDING(?) for the concrete rail.

Example: The shallow drafts also allowed for speed and manoeuvrability which was essential in sea battles, over all ships of SCANDINAVIAN design had the advantage.
