Sport psychology is a field of study that is based on the mental and emotional health of athletes especially high-level athletes. It explores different things that can have an impact on their athletic performance, and it seeks to understand how they feel when facing certain obstacles and how they think in challenging situations. A sport psychologist can help with stress management, self-confidence, mental preparation, and other psychological skills. This glossary brings together all the terms related to psychology in sport. All of this can help athletes improve their mindset and their performance in their sport.
- Anxiety
- A feeling of worry , nevoursness or unease typically about an imminent event or something with an uncertain outcome
- Burnout
- A state of physical , emotional , and mental exhaustion often caused by prolonged stress , particularly in a work environment .
- Cognition
- The mental action or process of acquiring knowledge and understanding through thought, experiences , and the senses
- Confidence
- A feeling or consciousness of one’s powers or of reliance on one’s circumstances
- Emotion
- An affective state of consciousness in which joy , sorrow , fear , hate is experienced
- Focus
- The state or quality of having or producing clear visual definition.
- Frustration
- The feeling of being upset or annoyed because of an inability to change or achieve something
- Goals-setting
- It's the strategic process of identifying specific, measurable objectives and creating actionable plans to achieve them within a defined timeframe.

- An evolving construct which represents the goals and aspirations of an individual
- Mental health
- Psychological well-being and satisfactory adjustment to society and to the ordinary demands of life

- Process of training one's mind to enhance performance and manage stress effectively.

- Ability to stay strong and focused during hard times.

- The established set of attitudes held by someone.

- Resilience
- Is an individuals tendency to cope with stress and adversity

- Combining conscious thoughts and unconscious beliefs and biases , provides a way for the brain to interpret and process daily experiences.

- Confidence in one’s own worth or abilities ; self respect

- A state of mental or emotional strain or tension resulting adverse or very demanding circumstances
