I choose the topic of psychology because I want to be a psychologist since I was young. It was always something really important to me since I was young. I decided to do a glossary to be able to explain the basic vocabulary that I'm going to use in my future. I decided to choose the basic word in my field so everybody would understand it as well. A psychologist is someone who will help you to deal with what happen in your life. It can be depression, a brake up, your job, family, and kids. Anything you can think of, a psychologist can help you to deal with it. It's a person who will listen to you without judgment and them introduce you to possible ways of solutions. The purpose is the help and cure the mind of your patient. It's like a doctor, but for your mind only.
- Abnormal
- Is deviating from the normal or average.
- Assessment
- The act of judging or deciding the amount, value, quality, or importance of something, or the judgment or decision that is made.
- Behavior
- The way in which one acts or conducts oneself, especially toward others.
- Cognitive scientists
- A person who is studying or has expert knowledge of thought processes, learning, and mental organization.
- Conscious
- Aware of and responding to one's surroundings; awake.
- Emergent
- That is in process of rising into notice.
- Empirical methods
- An empirical method involves the use of objective, quantitative observation in a systematically controlled, replicable situation, in order to test or refine a theory.
- Feeling
- The capacity to experience the sense of touch or other bodily sensations (as of heat, cold, pain, motion, etc.); physical sensation other than sight, hearing, taste, or smell.
- Gestalt
- An organized whole that is perceived as more than the sum of its parts.
- Interpersonal relationships
- Interpersonal relationships refer to reciprocal social and emotional interactions between the patient and other people in the environment.
- Mind
- The element of a person that enables them to be aware of the world and their experiences, to think, and to feel; the faculty of consciousness and thought.
- Moral
- Relating to the standards of good or bad behaviour, fairness, honesty, etc. that each person believes in, rather than to laws.
- Motive
- The reason or reasons one has for acting or behaving in a particular way.
- Neurobiological
- The biology of the nervous system.
- Neuroscience
- Any or all of the sciences, such as neurochemistry and experimental psychology, which deal with the structure or function of the nervous system and brain.
- Physiological.
- Relating to the branch of biology that deals with the normal functions of living organisms and their parts.
- Psychometric
- Designed to show someone's personality, mental ability, opinions.
- Suicidology
- The study of why people kill themselves and how this can be prevented.
- Thought
- An idea or opinion produced by thinking or occurring suddenly in the mind.
- Unconscious
- The part of the mind which is inaccessible to the conscious mind but which affects behavior and emotions.
