20 Criminology terms
For my glossary, I choose the theme of criminology. At the moment, I'm not in the program but next year is going to be my first year in this program. Criminology is the scientific study of crime and criminals. This glossary is for myself. This glossary can save my grade by knowing more words and the real meaning of a bunch of words. I have 20 terms. For the definition, I use Cambridge dictionary and WordReference.com to make sure I have a real definition.
- Addiction
- an inability to stop doing or using something, especially something harmful
- Arrest
- If the police arrest someone, they take them away to ask them about a crime that they might have committed
- Conversation
- (a) talk between two or more people in which thoughts, feelings, and ideas are expressed, questions are asked and answered, or news and information are exchanged
- crime
- An action or activity that is against the law, or illegal activity generally
- Cybercrime
- crime or illegal activity that is done using the internet
- Deviance
- the quality of not being usual, and of being generally considered to be unacceptable
- Fraud
- the crime of getting money by deceiving people
- Investigation
- An official examination of the fact about a situation, crime, etc.
- Jail
- A building where people are kept as punishment for a crime
- Justice
- Fairness in the way people are dealt with.
- Juvenile delinquency
- crime that is committed by young people
- Law
- A rule, usually made by a government, that is used to order the way in which a society behaves.
- Offence
- an illegal act; a crime
- Offender
- en: A person who is guilty of a crime.
- Police
- The official organization that is responsible for protecting people and property, making people obey the law, finding out about and solving crime, and catching people who have committed a crime.
- prevention
- the act of stopping something from happening or of stopping someone from doing something
- Probation
- a period of time when a criminal must behave well and not commit any more crimes in order to avoid being sent to prison
- Psychopath
- a person who has no feeling for other people, does not think about the future, and does not feel bad about anything they have done in the past
- Rehabilitation
- the process of returning to a healthy or good way of life, or the process of helping someone to do this after they have been in prison, been very ill, etc.
- Victim
- Someone or something that has been hurt, damaged, or killed or has suffered, either because of the actions of someone or something else, or because of illness or chance.
