The Office Technology environment encompasses all the activities, tools and environments related to administrative work and information processing within an organization. This glossary helps to better understand certain technical terms in this field.
- A path
- Is a string that uniquely identifies an item in a hierarchical file system.
- Accounting
- The system of recording and summarizing business and financial transactions and analyzing, verifying, and reporting the results.
- Customer Service
- Customer service is the assistance and advice provided by a company to those who buy or use its products or services, either in person or remotely.
- Database
- An organized collection of structured information, or data, typically stored electronically in a computer system.
- Deal
- A bargain or arrangement for mutual advantage.
- E-mail
- E-mail is a method of transmitting and receiving digital messages using electronic devices over a computer network.
- Epistolary
- Any correspondence or communication written in the form of a letter or series of letters.
- File
- A device (such as a folder, case, or cabinet) by means of which papers are kept in order.
- Firm
- A business unit or enterprise.
- Foreman
- A first or chief person.
- Function
- A process that a computer program uses to complete a task.
- Grievance
- A cause of distress (such as an unsatisfactory working condition) forming the reason for complaint or resistance.
- Management
- The control and organization of something (a business and its employees).
- Memorandum
- A short written report prepared specially for a person or group of people that contains information about a particular matter.
- Office Suite
- A bundle of applications intended to be used together for productivity purposes, such as word processors, a spreadsheet, a presentation program, a database etc.
- Secretary
- One employed to handle correspondence and manage routine and detail work for a superior.
- Server
- A central computer from which other computers get information.
- Service
- A business service refers to activities that benefit a company without supplying tangible products.
- Servuction
- The process of producing a service, which includes the organization of physical and human elements in the relation customer-business.
- Workstation
- An area with equipment for the performance of a specialized task usually by a single individual.
