Hello, my name is Alexis, and I have been in my education program for 1 session. During my time in this program, I have learned about the important role teachers play for students' success and personal growth. I created this glossary for students who are interested in becoming teachers, or anyone who wants to understand the teaching profession.
My topic focuses on the role and responsibilities of a teacher for education. A lot of students enter education programs without understanding what they learned in classrooms, lesson planning, and school environments. This glossary helps solve that problem by clearly explaining key terms related to teaching. Understanding this vocabulary can improve academic performance in education and prepare future teachers for bad classroom situations.
To create this glossary, I reviewed my textbooks, class notes, and online educational dictionaries. I selected words that are commonly used in teacher preparation programs and professional school settings. Definitions were adapted from academic sources to make them clear and easy to understand.

- assignment
- A task or project given to students to complete.
- attendance
- The act of being present at school or in class.
- classroom
- A room where students gather to learn and receive instruction from a teacher.
- collaboration
- The act of working together with others to achieve a common goal.
- curriculum
- The set of subjects and content taught in a school or educational program.
- discipline
- The system of rules and consequences used to maintain order in a classroom.
- feedback
- Comments or suggestions given to help improve a student’s performance.
- grading
- The process of evaluating and assigning scores to student work.
- homework
- Assignments given to students to complete outside of class time.
- instruction
- The act of teaching or providing knowledge to students.
- learning objective
- A clear statement describing what students should know or be able to do after a lesson.
- lecture
- An oral presentation given by a teacher to explain a topic.
- lesson plan
- A detailed outline created by a teacher to organize and structure a class session.
- motivation
- The encouragement or desire that inspires students to learn and succeed.
- principal
- The head administrator responsible for managing a school.
