Teaching is an important profession for all. Without the teachers, we would not be very smart. This glossary will be used to explain how this profession works. It will also allow you to learn new words about teaching. Teaching is an action, the art of teaching, of transmitting knowledge.

classroom
A room, typically in a school, in which a class of students is taught.
Communication
The imparting or exchanging of information or news.
Desk
A piece of furniture with a flat or sloped surface and typically with drawers, at which one can read, write, or do other work.
Discipline
The practice of training people to obey rules or a code of behavior, with punishment or other undesired consequences for those failing to comply.
education
The process of receiving or giving systematic instruction, especially at a school or university.
evaluation
The making of a judgment about the amount, number, or value of something; assessment.
Explanation
A statement or account that makes something clear.
Grades
A mark indicating the quality of a student's work.
Homework
Schoolwork that a student is required to do at home.
Instruction
A direction or order.
Knowledge
Facts, information, and skills acquired by a person through experience or education; the theoretical or practical understanding of a subject.
learning
The acquisition of knowledge or skills through experience, study, or by being taught.
Lesson
An amount of teaching given at one time; a period of learning or teaching.
Pedagogy
The method and practice of teaching, especially as an academic subject or theoretical concept.
Progress
Improvement or development toward a goal.
Question
A sentence worded or expressed so as to elicit information.
School
An institution for educating children.
student
A person who is studying at a school or college.
Success
The accomplishment of an aim or purpose.
Teacher
A person who teaches, especially in a school.
