Hi, my name is Vincent and I'm in a spring board of a DCS, and it my second semester. This is some words were we usually associate with my glossary, firefighter. There word who are easier to know and other that you probably never heard before.
- Aircraft rescue
- Airports employ specialist firefighters to deal with potential ground emergencies.
- Arson
- Is the act of willfully and deliberately setting fire to or charring property.
- Backdraft
- Is the abrupt burning of a superheated gases in a fire caused when oxygen rapidly enters a hot, oxygen-depleted environment.
- Basic life support
- Is a level of medical care which is used for patients with life-threatening condition of cardiac arrest until they can be given full medical care.
- Combustible metals “Class D”
- Types of fires fueled by combustible metals such as magnesium, titanium, sodium, zirconium, lithium, and potassium.
- Customer stabilization
- Refers to customer service that fire departments provide during an emergency.
- Emergency medical service (EMS)
- Is to provide urgent prehospital treatment and stabilisation for serious illness and injuries and transport to definitive care.
- Fire extinguisher
- A handheld active fire protection device usually filled with a dry or wet chemical used to extinguish or control small fires, often in emergencies.
- Fire hose
- A high-pressure hose that carries water or other fire retardant to a fire to extinguish it.
- Fire marshal
- A person who enforces fire safety laws and investigates fires.
- Fire prevention
- Provide advice to the public on how to prevent fires in the home and work-place environments.
- Fire triangle
- A simple model for understanding the necessary ingredients for most fires.
- Flashover
- Is the near-simultaneous ignition of the most directly exposed combustible material in an enclosed area.
- Fuel
- Are any materials that can react with other substances to release energy as thermal energy or to used for work.
- Halligan bar
- A forcible entry tool used by firefighters. Created by Hugh Halligan in 1948.
- Hazardous materials
- Substances that are a risk to health, safety, property or the environment.
- MOPP(Mission oriented protective posture)
- A protective gear used by US military personnel (also used by firefighters) in a toxic environment.
- Personal alert safety system “PASS device”
- Is a personal safety device used primarily by firefighters entering a hazardous or immediately dangerous to life and health environment such as burning buildings. The PASS device sounds a loud (95 decibel) audible alert to notify others in the area that the firefighter is in distress.
- Ventilation
- Is a part of structural firefighter tactics and involves the expulsion of the heat and smoke from a burning building, permitting the firefighters to more easily and safely find trapped individuals and attack the fire.
- Wildfire
- Is an unplanned and uncontrolled fire in an area of combustible vegetation.
