This glossary is to get familiar to frequently use business terms.

accounting
noun
The system of identifying, recording, classifying, analysing and communicating financial transactions.
Example: It took me years of university to be an expert in accounting.

advertising
noun
The activity or profession of producing advertisements for commercial products or services.
Example: The advertising of cigarettes on television is illegal.

amount
noun
A quantity of something.
Example: The company received a large amount of money from their investors.

bankrupt
noun
Legal procedure for liquidating a business (or property owned by an individual) which cannot fully pay its debts out of its current assets.
Example: The company had too much debt that it could not repay so filed for bankruptcy.

bill
noun
An itemized account of the separate cost of goods sold, services performed, or work done.
Example: The company had to pay its electricity bill by the end of the month.

borrow
verb
To obtain or receive (something such as money) on loan for temporary use, intending to give it, or something equivalent or identical, back to the lender.
Example: Sylvia wants to borrow money to pay for her vacation.

brand name
A name given by the maker to a product or range of products, especially a trademark (marque déposé).
Example: Does anyone have a better idea for a new brand name?

currency
noun
A system of money in general used in a particular country.
Example: I need to get some foreign currency for my holidays in Asia.

debt
noun
Something, typically money, that is owed or due (must be paid back).
Example: Debt can cause a lot of stress, if you have difficulty paying it back.

Costs: A particular payment of money.
Example: Now that I have a new car, my monthly expenses have increased significantly.

Headquarters
noun
The place or building serving as the managerial and administrative center of an organization or company.
Example: The company's headquarters are located in NYC.

To begin something such as a plan, or introduce something such as a new product.
Example: The airline will launch its new transatlantic service next month.

The control and organization of something; the supervision of people.
Example: Her management of the problem was exemplary.

refund
noun
To return the money spent to a buyer after an article is purchased but then returned.
Example: The shirt I bought my spouse does not fit. I would like a complete refund.

stock
noun
The shares (fractional parts) of a particular company or corporation.
Example: Her company will issue stock and cease to be a private firm (company).
