Social sciences concepts may be hard to understand when you first dig into it. This is why I made this glossary to help people understand certain concepts of social sciences.

culture
noun
The arts and other manifestations of human intellectual achievement regarded collectively.
Example: The festival is a celebration of local culture and heritage.

democracy
noun
A system of government by the whole population or all the eligible members of a state, typically through elected representatives.
Example: Capitalism and democracy are ascendant in the third world.

The Parthenon is considered a symbol of democracy.
demography
noun
The study of statistics such as births, deaths, income, or the incidence of disease, which illustrate the changing structure of human populations.
Example: Europe's demography is changing.

feminism
noun
The advocacy of women's rights on the basis of the equality of the sexes.
Example: The inclusion of all these women in modern art history textbooks shows the impact feminism has had on the field.

globalization
noun
The process by which businesses or other organizations develop international influence or start operating on an international scale.
Example: Fears about the increasing globalization of the world economy.

society
noun
The aggregate of people living together in a more or less ordered community.
Example: Drugs, crime, and other dangers to society.

noun
The study of the development, structure, and functioning of human society.
Example: In sociology, this is called the Principle of Least Interest: The one who cares the least always has the most power.

territory
noun
An area of land under the jurisdiction of a ruler or state.
Example: Sorties into enemy territory.

theocracy
noun
A system of government in which priests rule in the name of God or a god.
Example: It is a society just emerging from theocracy.

noun
The way of life characteristic of cities and towns.
Example: A lot of their songs are about cities and urbanism.
