Hi, my name is Scola Nzoyikorela. I am at Sherbrooke College for two semesters. I am studying in Springboard to a DCS for now, but I will change for the next semester. I will study in special care counselling techniques. I have created this glossary to help myself and students interested in Special Care Counselling. This glossary contains the meaning of 20 words to help understands them, and they are related to Special Care Counselling. Each word has a definition, an audio pronunciation to help people say word correctly, an example of way we can use words in a sentence and have an image.

The action or process of adapting or being adapted.
Example: It is suggested that the possible reflection of severe lifestyle and cold ADAPTATION during the last ice age. Thus this essay focused on the Question of how much Neanderthal anatomy represents adaptations to the cold environments, with representing the significance of Neanderthal living environment, the climate reconstruction by oxygen isotope ratio analysis in deep sea sediments, and possible anatomical ADAPTATION with several theories and researches.

Example: Is based on the occupational behaviour frame of reference which focuses on the importance of occupation and having a balanced variety of occupational roles.

The action of restoring someone to health or normal life through training and therapy after imprisonment, addiction, or illness.
Example: Considerations in the application of elevation: mode of elevation duration of elevation frequency of elevation REHABILITATION protocol following soft tissue injury must include mobilization techniques to insure good functional adaptation. A program combining manipulations, the use of modalities, mobilization technique, and a strengthening program will insure optimal.

self-Regulation

The fact of something such as an organization regulating itself without intervention from external bodies.
Example: Without their own SELF-REGULATION, English lawyers may similarly develop a culture of resistance to external regulation, merely complying with minimum standards rather than striving for best practice.

Example: Good quality housing is kept for the host population by the threat of discrimination and SOCIAL EXCLUSION, thus 'forcing' immigrants to live together.

social integration

The process during which newcomers or minorities are incorporated into the social structure of the host society. Social integration, together with economic integration and identity integration, are three main dimensions of a newcomers' experiences in the society that is receiving them.
Example: First, the EU has undergone economic integration (by which a transnational economy is fostered), but also political integration (transfer of sovereignty to supranational organs) and SOCIAL INTEGRATION (creating a transnational society).

substance abuse

Overindulgence in or dependence on an addictive substance, especially alcohol or drugs.
Example: Nature imparts the freedom and exhilaration she seeks, literarily making her feel high; 'The land was flattening out I was getting so high up and a hot haze had appeared in the clear bright light,' where as alcohol and SUBSTANCE ABUSE often leaves her feeling; 'queerish.".
