catheter
noun
A catheter is a thin, flexible tube inserted into the body to administer medication, or introduce surgical instruments.

clinical judgment
noun
Clinical judgment is the, often rapid, decision-making process where healthcare professionals (especially nurses) analyze, interpret, and evaluate patient data to determine necessary actions.
Example: With surgery such as aortic aneurysm repair, where massive volumes of blood can be lost and infusions given in minutes, by the time a result is obtained it is irrelevant, and consequently transfusion decisions are based on CLINICAL JUDGMENT or ratio (i.e. four units of fresh frozen plasma given to each six units of packed red cells).
fr: jugement clinique

electrocardiogram
noun
An electrocardiogram (ECG or EKG) is a quick, painless, non-invasive test that records the electrical signals of the heart to check for, diagnose, or monitor heart conditions. By placing electrodes on the skin, it measures the rate, rhythm, and strength of electrical impulses. It detects arrhythmias, heart attacks, and structural issues.
Example: Such a diagnosis can be confirmed from ELECTROCARDIOGRAM tracings and levels of cardiac enzymes such as troponin T.
fr: électrocardiograme (ECG)
null
glucometer
noun
A device for measuring the concentration of glucose in the blood, typically using a small drop of blood placed on a disposable test strip, where a chemical reaction with glucose alters the electrical conductivity of the strip.
Example: He is using his GLUCOMETER at home to check his blood sugar before eating breakfast.
fr: glucomètre
inhale
verb
breathe in (air, gas, smoke, etc.)
Example: She had to inhale the medication slowly to help relieve her breathing difficulties.
fr: inhaler
null
intubation
noun
Intubation is a critical medical procedure where a healthcare provider inserts a tube, typically an endotracheal (ET) tube, through the mouth or nose into the windpipe (trachea) to maintain an open airway and deliver oxygen.
Example: Upon arrival at the A+E department, rapid sequence induction was administered in order to allow INTUBATION and ventilation.
fr: intubation

nasal cannula
noun
A nasal cannula is a lightweight, flexible plastic tube with two prongs that fit into the nostrils to deliver supplemental oxygen or increased airflow directly to the nose, helping people with breathing difficulties due to respiratory conditions or low blood oxygen levels
Example: He was receiving oxygen at 2 L min via a NASAL CANNULA and was not obviously cyanosed nor jaundiced.
fr: lunette nasale
null
nasogastric tube
noun
A nasogastric (NG) tube is a thin, flexible, temporary tube inserted through the nose, down the esophagus, and into the stomach. It is used for short-term, specialized care, such as delivering nutrition, fluids, or medication directly to the stomach, or for removing (decompressing) stomach contents.
Example: On admission and transfer to the stroke unit he remained nil by mouth and was fed via a NASOGASTRIC TUBE.
fr: tube nasogastrique (TNG)

oral thermometer
noun
An instrument for measuring and indicating temperature, typically one consisting of a narrow, hermetically sealed glass tube marked with graduations and having at one end a bulb containing mercury or alcohol that expands and contracts in the tube with heating and cooling.
Example: When she started feeling feverish, she us an ORAL THERMOMETER to check her temperature.
fr: thermomètre
pressure ulcer

Example: He used a SATUROMETER to check his oxygen level with recovering from cold at home
fr: saturomètre
null
