Hello, my name is Samuel and next years I will start my flight training at College Air Richelieu in Montreal. Aviation is really difficult for a lot of things. That's why my glossary is made for helping understand the basic in aviation language.
Air Traffic Control (ATC)
Noun
Air traffic control (ATC) is a service provided by ground-based air traffic controllers who direct aircraft on the ground and through controlled airspace. The primary purpose of ATC is to prevent collisions, organise and expedite the flow of air traffic, and provide information and other support for pilots.
Example: Pilot do call the ATC to prevent crash between each plane

Aircraft
Noun
An airplane, helicopter, or other machine capable of flight.
Example: Specific AIRCRAFT type (Boeing 737 and Airbus A319, which are interchangeable on all easyJet routes)

Chart

An aeronautical chart is a map designed to assist in the navigation of aircraft, much as nautical charts do for watercraft, or a roadmap does for drivers.
Example: The rapid growth in turnover is clearly displayed by the bar CHART shown below.

checkride

A checkride is the practical test at the end of your pilot training that's required in order to get your certificate from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). During the checkride, your examiner will test your knowledge on the ground and have you demonstrate your abilities with a flight.

Its primary mission is to ensure safety of civil aviation.

Flight Hours means the cumulative number of airborne hours in operation of each Engine computed from the time an aircraft leaves the ground until it touches the ground at the end of a flight.
Example: The more you got flight hours, the more you get paid.

flight instructor

Flying instructors teach flying techniques and procedures to student and licensed pilots. Air pilots, flight engineers and flight instructors are employed by airline and air freight companies, flying schools and by other public and private sector aircraft operators.
Example: When I start flying, I need a flight instructor to tell me what I need to do.

Flight training is a course of study used when learning to pilot an aircraft. The overall purpose of primary and intermediate flight training is the acquisition and honing of basic airmanship skills.
Example: I do a lot of flight training, so I could hit my hour to become a better pilot.

The main body of an aircraft.
Example: The fuselage of the plane was made in Montreal.

ground crew

a team of people who maintain and service an aircraft on the ground.
Example: We need to check with the ground crew if we can use the plane in this weather

Instrument panel

a surface in front of a driver's or pilot's seat, on which the vehicle's or aircraft's instruments are situated.
Example: Pilots need to adjust something with the instrument panel

Example: FAA rules state that every flight need to be in my logbook

an official document issued by a government, certifying the holder's identity and citizenship and entitling them to travel under its protection to and from foreign countries.
Example: Most importantly, a digital image of the PASSPORT applicant and their signature would be captured and stored in the system, to be reproduced electronically on the new passports to provide superior security.

Private Pilot License
