In the world nowadays, people are becoming more and more reliant on technology. We should all know a bit about what we rely on. This glossary will show you some components that you use every day and a few of the instruments and tools used in IT and cyber security.
central processing unit

The part of a computer in which operations are controlled and executed.
Example: The CENTRAL PROCESSING UNIT would be enough for a program this intensive.

An electronic device for storing and processing data, typically in binary form, according to instructions given to it in a variable program.
Example: Although a cheap COMPUTER was more expensive than any other console, they were more versatile.

A computer monitor is an output device that displays information in pictorial or textual form.
Example: The information is finally displayed on the COMPUTER MONITOR for extraction.

A system for connecting a number of computer systems to form a local area network, with protocols to control the passing of information and to avoid simultaneous transmission by two or more systems.
Example: Ethernet is the cabled way of connecting to the internet just like Wi-Fi is the wireless way of connecting to the internet.

Example: The computer's HDD is corrupted so the operating system is lost.

Example: Make it interactive with a keyboard and MOUSE.

An electrical device that converts power from a source, like a wall outlet or battery, into the correct voltage, current, and frequency needed by a load, such as a computer or electronic device.

A storage device containing nonvolatile flash memory, used in place of a hard disk because of its much greater speed.
Example: My SSD's storage is filled with too many games.

Example: The TERMINAL allows me to write commands and execute applications, whether it be on Windows or Linux.
