15 Nursing terms

This glossary is for learning vocabulary that are often used by nurse and other professions. And so I create this to learn and to make it easy in the futur to recognize words.

analgesic

A drug or substance that relieves pain.
Example: Following the surgical procedure, the patient was prescribed a non-opioid analgesic to manage post-operative pain.

noun
A medicine (such as penicillin or its derivatives) that inhibits the growth of or destroys microorganisms.
Example: He was sent home with a tetanus shot and antibiotics.

antiemetic
A medication used to prevent or reduce nausea and vomiting.
Example: An antiemetic medication, like ondansetron (Zofran), is often administered to prevent or mitigate nausea and vomiting, particularly as a side effect of chemotherapy or surgery.

Bladder
noun
A membranous sac in humans and other animals, in which urine is collected for excretion.
Example: The patient exhibited signs of urinary retention, indicating that their bladder was not emptying properly.

An organ of soft nervous tissue contained in the skull of vertebrates, functioning as the coordinating center of sensation and intellectual and nervous activity.
Example: "Brain" can be used to describe various conditions, treatments, or parts of the central nervous system.

An escape of blood from a ruptured blood vessel, especially when profuse.

A pair of organs that are found on either side of the spine, just below the rib cage in the back.

Example: A medication or substance used to promote bowel evacuation.

A large lobed glandular organ in the abdomen of vertebrates, involved in many metabolic processes.

Example: The patient exhibited decreased lung function as indicated by a low FEV1 measurement.

Example: The currently most common way of screening for breast cancer is mammography.

The pointed hollow end of a hypodermic syringe.

A rhythmical throbbing of the arteries as blood is propelled through them, typically as felt in the wrists or neck.
Example: The nurse checked the patient's radial pulse, which was regular and at 78 beats per minute.
