Hi, my name is Nicolas Bonin, I live in Montreal and I have been studying electrical engineer for 1 year at Ahuntsic college.The glossary that I made it for the new one in this program and to help them to understand the basic words in this program.I have 15 words to present you with the definition that will help you for your journey.
Alternating Current (AC)
An electric current that reverses direction periodically, typically used for power transmission.
Example: Most electrical appilances, such as fans, bulbs, air conditioners, and motors.
en: Un courant électrique qui inverse périodiquement de direction, utilisé généralement pour la transmission d'énergie.
Capacitance
The ability of a component or circuit to store electrical charge, measured in farads (F).
Example: If we have a power outage, we can still have electricity for more time but not a lot.
en: La capacité d'un composant ou d'un circuit à stocker une charge électrique, mesurée en farads (F).
Circuit Breaker
A safety device that automatically interrupts the flow of current when it exceeds a preset limit, protecting the circuit from damage.
Example: A switch that automatically interrupts the current of an overloaded electric circuit.
en: Un dispositif de sécurité qui interrompt automatiquement le flux de courant lorsqu'il dépasse une limite prédéfinie, protégeant ainsi le circuit des dommages.
Conductor
A material that allows the flow of electrical current, such as copper or aluminum.
Example: Steel, gold and copper are good conductors od electricity.

Current
The flow of electric charge through a conductor, measured in amperes (A).
Example: Your phone will load faster depending on the speed of the current.

Diode
A semiconductor device that allows current to flow in one direction only, used for rectification.
Example: They are used to electronically tune radio and TV receivers.
en: Un composant semi-conducteur qui permet au courant de circuler uniquement dans un sens, utilisé pour la rectification.
Direct Current (DC)
An electric current that flows in one direction only, commonly used in batteries and low-voltage systems.
Example: Batteries, solar panels and electrical vehicules.
en: Un courant électrique qui circule dans un seul sens, couramment utilisé dans les batteries et les systèmes à faible tension.
Frequency
The number of cycles per second of an alternating current (AC), measured in hertz (Hz).
Example: It the current speed so if the frequency is fast, the current is fast.
en: Le nombre de cycles par seconde d'un courant alternatif (AC), mesuré en hertz (Hz).
Impedance
The total opposition to the flow of alternating current (AC), consisting of resistance and reactance, measured in ohms (Ω).
Example: If a set of speakers has a higher impedance than the output impedance of the amplifier, the overall resistance is greater so the amplifier will not produce the maximum volume.

Inductance
The property of a conductor that opposes a change in current, measured in henries (H).
Example: Inductance is used in many devices.

Power
The rate at which electrical energy is transferred or converted, measured in watts (W).
Example: The power allows you to have light in your room.

Resistance
A material’s opposition to the flow of electric current, measured in ohms (Ω).
Example: Allows your phone too not to explode.

Resistor
A component that resists the flow of current, thereby reducing voltage and controlling current in a circuit.
Example: Turn current into heat.
en: Un composant qui résiste au passage du courant, réduisant ainsi la tension et contrôlant le courant dans un circuit.
Transformer
An electrical device that changes the voltage of an alternating current (AC) without changing its frequency.
Example: Transformers regulate voltage and prevent surge current,enhancing device safety.

Voltage
The electrical potential difference between two points, measured in volts (V). It drives current through a circuit.
Example: the voltage allows you to load your phone.
