This glossary contains the most used words in air conditioning.
abacus
noun
an oblong frame with rows of wires or grooves along which beads are slid, used for calculating
Example: I use my abacus to set the air properties.
en: abaque
air filter
noun
A device for filtering particles of dust, soot, etc., from the air passing through it.
Example: An air filter is cleaning meeting room air.
en: filtre à air
chiller
noun
A machine for cooling something, especially a cold cabinet or refrigerator for keeping stored food a few degrees above freezing.
Example: It is hot in the room maybe the chiller is off.
en: refroidisseur
compressor
noun
A machine used to supply air or other gas at increased pressure.
Example: The mechanism was nearly identical to the turbocharger, the major difference was the power supplies in order to run the air COMPRESSOR.
en: compresseur
condenser
noun
The outdoor portion of an air conditioner or heat pump that either releases or collects heat, depending on the time of the year.
Example: The main elements in a closed mechanical refrigeration system are the CONDENSER, compressor, evaporator, and the expansion valve.
en: condenseur
conduit
noun
A channel for conveying water or other fluid.
Example: There is a hole in the conduit and the gas is escaping.
en: conduit
energy
noun
Power derived from the utilization of physical or chemical resources, especially to provide light and heat or to work machines.
Example: As your project is a new development, we should make use of all new technologies, new recycled materials, or low ENERGY materials that reduce the affect the building's ENERGY requirements and sustainability needs.
en: énergie
enthalpy
noun
A thermodynamic quantity equivalent to the total heat content of a system.
Example: Glasses also exhibit time-dependent behaviour during formation; their final ENTHALPY will depend on their rate of cooling, which is not the case for crystals.
en: enthalpie
evaporator
noun
It is a type of heat exchanger device that facilitates evaporation by utilizing conductive and convective heat transfer.
Example: Heat from the food will be transferred to the EVAPORATOR by the temperature gradient resulting in the evaporation of the refrigerant.
en: évaporateur
heating
noun
Equipment or devices used to provide heat, especially to a building.
Example: Also, British Gas being UK's largest domestic central HEATING and gas appliance installation company, it is responsible for significant emission of greenhouse gases.

humidifier
noun
A device for keeping the atmosphere moist in a room.
Example: Humidifiers are useful in the winter if the air is too dry.
en: humidificateur
manometer
noun
An instrument for measuring the pressure acting on a column of fluid.
Example: I took readings of the maximum MANOMETER pressure head when the capillary tubing was at 5 different depths.
en: manomètre
psychrometry
noun
The science which investigates the thermal properties of moist air, considers the measurement and control of the moisture content of air, and studies the effects of moisture on material and human comfort.
Example: Thanks to a psychrometry I was able to set better air quality in the building.
en: psychrométrie
temperature
noun
The degree or intensity of heat present in a substance or object, especially as expressed according to a comparative scale and shown by a thermometer or perceived by touch.
Example: Day length, TEMPERATURE, ventilation and movement are all controlled to optimize production.
en: température
ventilation
noun
An equipment which provides the provision of fresh air to a room, building, etc.
Example: The entry of fresh air is controlled by VENTILATION flaps at the base of the outer skin, while manually controlled sliding doors allow fresh outside air into the space.
