This glossary could be useful for the guy who just start studying in Electrical engineering technology, and it can help them to study the word field of their technique.
- alternating current
- Definition: Alternating Current (AC) is a type of electrical current, in which the direction of the flow of electrons switches back and forth at regular intervals or cycles.
- ampere
- An ampere is a unit of measure of the rate of electron flow or current in an electrical conductor.
- amplifier
- An electronic device for increasing the amplitude of electrical signals, used chiefly in sound reproduction.
- apparent power
- Apparent power is a term used in electrical engineering to describe the apparent power in an alternating current system.
- bipolar junction transistor
- A Bipolar Junction Transistor, or BJT, is a solid-state device in which the current flow between two terminals (the collector and the emitter) is controlled by the amount of current that flows through a third terminal (the base).
- capacitance
- Capacitance, property of an electric conductor, or set of conductors, that is measured by the amount of separated electric charge that can be stored on it per unit change in electrical potential.
- circuit
- A roughly circular line, route, or movement that starts and finishes at the same place.
- circuit breaker
- An automatic device for stopping the flow of current in an electric circuit as a safety measure.
- conduit
- A tube or trough for protecting electric wiring.
- diode
- A semiconductor device with two terminals, typically allowing the flow of current in one direction only.
- direct current
- Direct current (DC) is an electric current that is uni-directional, so the flow of charge is always in the same direction. As opposed to alternating current, the direction and amperage of direct currents do not change. It is used in many household electronics and in all devices that use batteries.
- electrolyte
- A liquid or gel that contains ions and can be decomposed by electrolysis, e.g., that present in a battery.
- impedance
- The effective resistance of an electric circuit or component to alternating current, arising from the combined effects of Ohmic resistance and reactance.
- inductance
- The property of an electric conductor or circuit that causes an electromotive force to be generated by a change in the current flowing.
- insulator
- A substance or device which does not readily conduct electricity.
- ohm
- The SI unit of electrical resistance, expressing the resistance in a circuit transmitting a current of one ampere when subjected to a potential difference of one volt.
- relay
- An electrical device, typically incorporating an electromagnet, which is activated by a current or signal in one circuit to open or close another circuit.
- resistance
- Resistance is a measure of the opposition to the flow of current in an electrical circuit. It is influenced by the material's properties, length, cross-sectional area, and temperature.
- si
- SI = Source intensity.
- surface mount
- Of an electronic component having leads that are designed to be soldered on the side of a circuit board that the body of the component is mounted on.
- thru-hole
- In electronics, through-hole technology is a manufacturing scheme in which leads on the components are inserted through holes drilled in printed circuit boards (PCB) and soldered to pads on the opposite side, either by manual assembly (hand placement) or by the use of automated insertion.
- volt
- The SI unit of electromotive force, the difference of potential that would drive one ampere of current against one ohm resistance.
- watts
- The SI unit of power, equivalent to one joule per second, corresponding to the power in an electric circuit in which the potential difference is one volt and the current one ampere.
