Hi, my name is Léon Latour and my feild of studies is Police. My glossary can be useful to anyone who want to know more about some terms used in the job.
- Accelerant
- A substance used to aid the spread of fire.
- Example: Stolen accelerants could be used as firebombs.

- A person or group of people who are charged with or on trial for a crime.
- Example: The accused was ordered to stand trial on a number of charges.

- Active shooter
- An individual actively engaged in killing or attempting to kill people in a confined and populated area.
- Example: This guy is an active shooter.

- Alibi
- a claim or piece of evidence that one was elsewhere when an act, especially a criminal one, is alleged to have taken place.
- Example: she has an alibi for the whole of yesterday evening.

- Arest
- Seize (someone) by legal authority and take into custody.
- Example: The police arrested him for possession of marijuana.

- An examination of a body after death to determine the cause of death or the character and extent of changes produced by disease.
- Example: An autopsy report.

- A distinctive emblem worn as a mark of office, membership, achievement, or licensed employment.

- An official in a court of law who keeps order, looks after prisoners, etc.
- Example: As the bailiff took him away, his mother wept while I averted my eyes.

- A stick.
- Example: Hit him with your baton.

- A vest capable of resisting the impact of a bullet.

- A sign or some information that helps you to find the answer to a problem, question, or mystery.
- Example: The police found a vital clue to the girl's disappearance in a wooded area near her home.

- Coroner
- An official who examines the reasons for a person's death, especially if it was violent or unexpected.
- Example: This was a cumbersome process and made more difficult as the drugs were listed exactly as recorded on the coroner's certificate.

- A place where trials and other legal cases happen, or the people present in such a place, especially the officials and those deciding if someone is guilty.
- Example: Protestors gathered outside the court to await the verdict.

- Someone whose job is to discover information about crimes and find out who is responsible for them.
