This is a complicated and risky job, so people absolutely have to know the exact terms.
- auscultation
- To listening to sounds from the heart, lungs or other organs.
- blood pressure
- The amount of force your blood uses to get through your arteries.
- blood test
- A scientific examination of a sample of blood.
- catheter
- A flexible tube inserted through a narrow opening into a body cavity.
- heart rate
- The number of times the heart beats within a certain time period.
- hospital
- An institution for sick or injured people.
- infectious diseases
- Disorders caused by organisms that are passed from one person to another.
- intravenous route
- To send into your vein using a needle or tube.
- medecine
- A compound or preparation used for the treatment or prevention of disease.
- patient
- A person receiving or registered to receive medical treatment.
- pediatrics
- The branch of medicine dealing with children and their diseases.
- pharmacology
- The branch of medicine concerned with the uses, effects, and modes of action of drugs.
- prescription
- An instruction written by a medical practitioner that authorizes a patient to be provided a medicine or treatment.
- pulse
- The rhythmical throbbing of the arteries as blood is propelled through them.
- stethoscope
- A medicine instrument for listening to the action of someone's heart or breathing.
- stretcher
- To carrying sick, injured, or dead people.
- suture
- A stitch or row of stitches holding together the edges of a wound or surgical incision.
- ultrasound scan
- To imagine test that shows structures inside your body using high intensity sound waves.
- vital signs
- The clinical measurement that indicates the state of a patient's essential body functions.
- x-ray
- A photographic or digital image of the internal composition of something.
