Hi, I'm Kevin Lessard. I'm 19 years old, and I am from Thetford. I am a student at Cégep de Thetford, and I am in Business Management, and it is my second year in this program. My glossary will be for everybody that want to be an entrepreneur and learn about business. My topic is the world of business and my glossary can help for people to understand better the big and complicated world of business and the marketing. The glossary will have 20 different terms about everything that people don't know about business and marketing need to know to learn and understand what this is. I found the word for this glossary with Google on business website and the definition for these terms on Google too. Finally, after you finish reading this, I want you to go and listen at different podcast from successful entrepreneurs around the world to learn more about the world of business.
- Asset
- Anything of value owned by a company or individual, such as cash, property, or equipment.
- Balance Sheet
- A financial statement that shows a company's assets, liabilities and equity at a specific point in time.
- Branding
- The process of creating a unique identity, name or image for a product or company to distinguish it from competitors.
- Capital
- Financial resources or assets used by a business to fund operations and growth.
- Cash Flow
- The movement of money in and out of a business including income and expenses.
- Corporate Social Responsibility
- A company's commitment to ethical practices, sustainability and community support beyond profit-making activities.
- Dividend
- A portion of a company's profits paid to shareholders as a return on their investment.
- Entrepreneur
- An individual who starts and manages a business, taking on financial risks in hope of making a profit.
- Equity
- The ownership interest in a company, calculated as total assets minus total liabilities.
- Franchise
- A business model where an individual or company (franchise) is granted the rights to operate under an established brand (franchisor).
- Gross profit
- The revenue from sales minus the direct costs of producing goods or services, excluding other expenses.
- Inflation
- The rate at wich the general level of prices for goods and services rises, reducing purchasing power.
- Liability
- A company's legal financial obligations or debts.
- Market Share
- The percentage of total sales in an industry that belongs to a particular company.
- Merger
- The process of two companies combining to form a single entity.
- Monopoly
- A market structure where a single company dominates, limiting competition.
- Outsourcing
- The practice of hiring external companies or individuals to perform business tasks or services.
- Profit Margin
- A measure of profitability, calculated as net income divided by revenue.
- Stakeholder
- Any individual or group affected by a company's actions, including employees, customers, and investors.
- Supply Chain
- The entire process of producing and delivering a product, from raw materials to the final customer.
