This glossary concerns psychology since it is a field in which I would like to continue my studies because it interests me a lot. Indeed, I would like to go through psychology to become a speech therapist afterwards. So, this glossary could help me and all the others who are starting in this field to better understand it and also start on a good basis.

anxiety
Uncomfortable feeling of nervousness or worry about something that is happening or might happen in the future.
behaviour
Way in which one acts or conducts oneself, especially towards others.
brain
Organ inside the head that controls thought, memory, feelings, and activity.
cognitive
Mental processes related to thinking, reasoning, and conscious intellectual activity.
consciousness
Awareness of internal and external existence.
depressive disorder (depression)
Common mental disorder that involves a depressed mood or loss of pleasure or interest in activities for long periods of time.
developmental psychology
Scientific study that examines how and why humans grow, change, and adapt across the course of their lives.
emotion
Conscious mental reaction subjectively experienced as strong feeling usually directed toward a specific object and typically accompanied by physiological and behavioral changes in the body.
illness
Disease of the body or mind.
memory
Ability of the mind to store and recall past sensations, thoughts, knowledge, etc.
neuron
Nerve cell that carries information between the brain and other parts of the body.
neuropsychology
Branch of psychology concerned with how person's cognition and behavior are related to the brain and the rest of the nervous system.
psychologist
Person who specializes in the study of mind and behavior or in the treatment of mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders : a specialist in psychology.
psychology
Scientific study of the way the human mind works and how it influences behaviour, or the influence of a particular person's character on their behaviour.
psychotherapy
To know as talk therapy, it refers to techniques that help people change behaviors, thoughts, and emotions that cause them problems or distress.
schizophrenia
Mental illness that is characterized by disturbances in thought, perception, and behavior, by a loss of emotional responsiveness and extreme apathy, and by noticeable deterioration in the level of functioning in everyday life.
therapy
Treatment that helps someone feel better, grow stronger, etc., especially after an illness.
thought
Idea or opinion produced by thinking, or occurring suddenly in the mind.
trauma
Severe and lasting emotional shock and pain caused by an extremely upsetting experience, or a case of such shock happening.
unconscious mind
Part of the mind which is inaccessible to the conscious mind but which affects behaviour and emotions.
