20 Accounting terms

This glossary contains the words that accountants can use to learn for their business. I created this glossary as part of my program in Ahuntsic College. I hope this glossary helps other people to know more about the business program.

account
noun
A report or description of an event or experience.
Example: As the projects started to emerge from the new road map, the researchers (and the top management) were not able to convince the donors to fund them, being more and more reliant on core funds, ultimately leaving a debit of one million US dollars in ISNAR's ACCOUNT.

accountant
noun
A person whose job is to keep, inspect, and analyze financial accounts.
Example: In terms of day to day activities this meant that directors would have frequent meetings with project leaders, a weekly meeting with the office ACCOUNTANT and would serve as a forefront of the business.

advertisement
noun
A notice or announcement in a public medium promoting a product, service, or event or publicizing a job vacancy.
Example: It is apparent that the element of paralanguage is consistent throughout the ADVERTISEMENT.

agent
noun
A person who acts on behalf of another person or group.
Example: Each AGENT's characteristics are only revealed ex post .

agreement
noun
A position or result of agreeing.
Example: It should be mentioned that they are addressed as well in the context of the precautionary principle in The Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety which is an international AGREEMENT - supplement to the Convention on Biological Diversity.

appointment
noun
An arrangement to meet someone at a particular time and place.
Example: ...With individual Appointments and Contacts form base classes themselves- each contact or APPOINTMENT has a certain number of properties....

bankrupt
adjective
(of a person or organization) declared in law unable to pay outstanding debts.
Example: ...wheat growers suffer and many of them have gone BANKRUPT.

bill of lading
noun
A detailed list of a shipment of goods in the form of a receipt given by the carrier to the person consigning the goods.

noun
A relationship between people or groups based on shared feelings, interests, or experiences.
Example: They are subject to transesterification as phosphorous due to the strong dipole, stability of leaving groups and the strength of the new BOND.

The activity or occupation of keeping records of the financial affairs of a business.

noun
A person who buys and sells goods or assets for others.
Example: The Commission can be modelled as a "BROKER and negotiator" between the member states.

budget
noun
An estimate of income and expenditure for a set period of time.
Example: SEN2 is a new product, thus a BUDGET $4000 needs to be spent on advertising to make consumers aware of the product.

noun
A person's regular occupation, profession, or trade.
Example: The balance sheet includes the physical resources that the BUSINESS has, such as tractors.

noun
Individual who looks closely at a company or department’s operations to find where the areas of weaknesses are, and helps develop solutions to overcome those weaknesses.
Example: Ms is a BUSINESS ANALYST.
