My name is Fabiola Miezan. I am schooling in Cegep de Thetford. I have studied Mineral Technology for the past two years. Mineral Technology is a pre-university program that prepares graduates with the technical skills necessary to enter careers in research and development, design, production engineering, operations and regulation of products or resources. Graduates will also be able to identify and evaluate various metallic and precious mineral deposits, create and interpret geological maps for mineral exploration, identify, illustrate, and list the mineralization associated with basic rocks. A glossary is a list of terms or expressions found in a text or a documentation and written in alphabetical order with their definition. This glossary will help people to understand the meaning of terms used in the mineral Technology field. My glossary contains 20 terms, and it includes terms related to both the mining industry and the general mineral Technology program. I found my words from the terms I learned in class, and I found the definitions online. What I will do next is to write down the terms I listed for my glossary and their various definitions.

A jack leg drill
Percussive tool that is powered by compressed air, and is used to bore holes into hard rock.
compass
Instruments used to by the geologist locate the magnetic north, and to measure the trike and dip surfaces in order to find outcrops.
core samples
Small portions of a formation taken from an existing well and used for geologic analysis. The sample is analyzed to determine its geologic age, of find out if it has economic benefits.
crusher
A machine used in the laboratory to reduce the size of large rocks or minerals into smaller particles, which are suitable for subsequent processing.
drilling
The process of penetrating through the ground and extracting rocks from various depths beneath the surface for confirming the geology beneath and/or providing samples for chemical analysis.
exploitation
The process of extracting economical valuable minerals from underground or on a specific mining filed.
exploration
The process of finding commercially viable mineral resource and the objective is to locate it in the shortest possible time and at the lowest possible cost.
gallery
A mine level, drift, tunnel or a large, more or less horizontal way, used for a passage for geologists or for mineral or for intercepting ground water.
geologist
A scientist who works in the energy and mining sectors to exploit natural resources, and incorporates techniques from physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics, and geography to perform research in the field and the laboratory.
lithology
The study that helps in understanding and describing the physical characteristics of rock units and the formation of such rocks.
mineral
An element or chemical compound that is normally crystalline and that has been formed as a result of geological processes.
mucking
The operation of loading broken rock by hand or machine, usually in shafts or tunnels or conveyor for transportation away from the face.
ore body
A deposit composing of one or more minerals that can be produced to make a profit.
ore dilution
The degradation of economical and valuable ore with the addition of the unwanted host rock, failed back filled material and or ore material considered below the cut-off the grade.
outcrop
A bedrock or an unconsolidated deposit or the part of a rock formation that appears at the surface of the ground.
pit slope
The angle at which the wall of an open pit or cut stands as measured along an imaginary plane extended along the crests of the berms or from the slope crest to its toe.
pyrite
A brass-yellow mineral with a bright metallic luster, commonly found underground and extracted for economical purposes.
rock hammer
Specifically designed equipment for use in geology and is used to break rocks and minerals. It has a pointed tip and a chisel-like end for prying and splitting rocks.
topography
The study and description of the physical features of an area, for example, its hills, valleys, or rivers, or the detailed and accurate illustration of these features on maps.
total station
a combination of an electronic theodolite and distance meter, is a precise tool for many geological surveying projects. The fundamental measurements made by a Total Station are slope distance, horizontal angle, and vertical angle.
