Education is a way to teach people about a certain subject. It can be about literature, science, music, geography, history and even more. We need this field of study if we want to continue learning, but education is a big world with its own vocabulary and definitions. Sometimes, parents, students and even teachers can be mesmerized. It helps a lot to find out about the definition of certain word. With this glossary, the best education for your children can be found and the discovery of unknown services can be done.

active learning: It refers to teaching practices that give students opportunities to work with concepts over and over, in a variety of ways and with opportunities for immediate feedback, so that knowledge can take hold in their own minds. Active learning activities may involve teaching strategies including things such as role-playing, problem-solving, polling, debates, group work, case studies and simulations.
blended learning: A combination of different modes of learning. Blended learning is often used to refer specifically to combination courses that use both in-classroom and online distance learning techniques.
classroom management: Classroom management is the way in which a classroom functions. This includes the way lessons are planned, and interactions between students, peers, and the teacher. It also includes rules, rewards, and techniques a teacher uses to make the classroom a safe, comfortable place for students. A teacher’s classroom management may look different depending on many factors: class size, teacher personality, school culture, and so on.
curriculum: The courses and contents offered by educational institutions. Curriculum may be determined, either partially or completely, by external bodies.
enrollement: It means meeting local requirements to register your child at a school. To enroll, parents will typically need to provide information such as their child’s street address, age, and health information. Different schools will have different enrollment deadlines and requirements. School districts cannot ask about a child’s citizenship or immigration status to establish residency in the district, and they cannot deny a homeless child enrollment.
evaluation: In special education, an evaluation means the procedures used to determine whether a child has a disability and the nature and extent of the special education and related services that the child may need.
graduation rate: A graduation rate looks at how many (or what percentage of) students complete high school requirements.
growth mentality: In education, a growth mindset refers to the idea that students and staff can change and improve their abilities through hard work and helpful teaching and tools.
higher education: The education provided by institutions such as colleges and universities that reward academic degrees upon completion. The term higher education refers to both teaching and research activities of universities. In the teaching sphere, it refers to both undergraduate and graduate level (sometimes referred to graduate school). Higher education is different than other types of post-secondary education such as vocational institutions. Most professional education can be found in the sphere of higher education, and a high majority of postgraduate work is strongly professionally oriented.
immersion program: A language immersion program is one in which students spend a large portion of their learning “immersed” in a foreign language. This approach gives students a wide opportunity to practice a language, often while learning general knowledge in various subjects.
inclusive education: The term used to describe the goal of treating everyone equitably and contributing fully to an institution’s mission. This term describes the ongoing engagement with diversity, whereby individual differences are engaged to achieve excellence in the classroom.
learning: Acquisition of attitudes, knowledge, skills, and/or values through experience, study, or teaching. Causes behavioral changes that is persistent and measurable. May also allow the individual to create new mental constructs or revise prior beliefs or attitudes. The learning process depends on experience and can lead to long term behavioral changes.
lesson plan: The detailed course description for a lesson, put together by the teacher or instructor. Many lesson plans are similar, but there is no single way to create a correct plan.
mentoring: The relationship between a mentor and a less-experienced partner, usually paired by sex.
methodology: Defined strictly as a study and knowledge of methods. Frequently used to indicate a particular single or set of methods. More widely defined as the study of problem-solving and answer-seeking techniques, rather than the study of the technique itself.
pedagogy: The art and science of teaching, from the Greek paidagogos. The Latin for pedagogy is education, and is much more widely used, though they are interchangeable.
research: The systematic process that looks to discover, interpret, and revise facts to produce a greater understanding of behaviors, events, and theories. It creates practical applications through theory and law. Research can also be used to describe information collected about a subject, most often associated with the scientific method.
service animal: Service animals are trained specifically to support individuals with disabilities and are legally permitted to accompany their handlers in public places, including schools. A service animal may be trained to help a student with medication reminders; detect a medical issue, like a seizure; or detect an allergen.
transition plan: A transition plan is specific to an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) – once a student turns 16 it must have goals and a plan addressing how he or she will transition to life outside of high school.
tuition: The fee charged by an educational system for instruction or teaching at a formal learning institution. It assists the funding of staff, providing various course offerings, paying for equipment, and upkeep of facilities.
