I developped this glossary to help people in my program to learn about the police related vocabulary.
Badge
noun
A distinctive emblem worn as a mark of office, membership, achievement, licensed employment, etc.
Example: The officer showed his badge to prove he is from the police.

Battering Ram
noun phrase
A heavy beam, originally with an end in the form of a carved ram's head, formerly used in breaching fortifications. A heavy object swung or rammed against a door to break it down.
Example: We used the battering ram to breach in his appartment.

Bulletproof vest
noun phrase
The bulletproof vest is an item of body armor that helps absorb the impact and reduce or stop penetration to the torso by bullets. Worn to protect the top of the body.
Example: The bulletproof vest has absorbed the impact from the bullet.

Criminal Code
noun phrase
The Criminal Code is a federal law that includes definitions of most of the criminal offences that the Parliament of Canada has enacted.
Example: The assault is a crime punishable under the criminal code

Event report
noun phrase
It is a report that gathers all the information necessary to illustrate an event that happened. It contains facts and has to be chronological,
Example: The officer that was interrogated in court could not remember the events that happened 2 years ago, so he looked at his event report.

Headquarters
noun
the place or building serving as the managerial and administrative center of an organization.
Example: I am going back to the headquarters to meet the investigator.

Highway safety code
noun phrase
It governs, among other things, the use of vehicles, pedestrian traffic and road safety in Québec.
Example: The officer gave him a ticket because he did not respect the highway safety code.

K-9 unit
noun phrase
A K-9 unit is a specialized group of law enforcement officers who use service dogs to perform the responsibilities of a general police officer.
Example: We lost track of him, we have to call the K-9 unit if we want to find him.

neighborhood post
noun phrase
The neighborhood post is the working place of the neighborhood officers. There, they can fill the event reports and do their paperwork.
Example: I am working for the SPVM, at the 49th neighborhood post.

Police Cadets
noun phrase
Police cadets are trainee police officers or young civilians who are interested in learning about law enforcement careers through working in police departments.
Example: The police cadets made their first intervention in this park.

S.W.A.T
noun
S.W.A.T stands for specialise weapons and tactics. A S.W.A.T. team is a group of selected police officers trained to handle certain crisis situations.
Example: We have called the S.W.A.T team to handle the guy barricaded inside.

An informer.

Speed radar gun
noun phrase
A radar speed gun, also known as a radar gun, speed gun, or speed trap gun, is a device used to measure the speed of moving objects.
Example: The officer caught me going 65km/h in a 50km/h zone with a speed radar gun.

A police automobile connected with headquarters by a two-way radio.

Tazer

a weapon firing barbs attached by wires to batteries, causing temporary paralysis.
Example: He wouldn't stop charging at me, I had to use my taser.

Telescopic baton
noun phrase
A telescopic baton is a non-lethal weapon, mainly used by police services in a large number of countries.
Example: The police officer used his telescopic baton to defend himself against the criminal.

unmarked car
noun phrase
An unmarked car is a police car that lacks markings and easily-visible or roof-mounted emergency lights. Flashing emergency lights are visible in the rear window.
Example: I haven't seen the unmarked car, he caught me speeding in a school zone.

Use of force continuum

A use of force continuum is a standard that provides law enforcement officers and civilians with guidelines as to how much force may be used against a resisting subject in a given situation.
Example: A police officer has to respect the use of force continuum against a resisting suspect.

Warrant
noun
A document issued by a legal or government official authorizing the police or some other body to make an arrest, search premises, or carry out some other action relating to the administration of justice.
Example: The police has a warrant to search his house.
