My name is Marika, and I'm an ultrasound student. It's my third year in the ultrasonography technologies program. My glossary is useful for the ultrasounds tech because we need to be able to communicate well with our patients, with our colleagues and with other medical staff. With these 37 words, you will be able to communicate easily without any problems. For each of them, and if necessary, their will be an image. I took the words related to my field of study and found all the infromation I needed on the internet. I want you to use this glossary and had the words to your vocabulary to communicate with ease, later in your job.

anaphylactic shock
noun
A sudden, severe allergic reaction characterized by a sharp drop in blood pressure, urticaria, and breathing difficulties that is caused by exposure to a foreign substance.
Example: I ate see foods and got into an anaphylactic shock.

The muscular-walled tube forming part of the circulation system that conveys blood from the heart to all parts of the body.
Example: Blood goes from the heart to the brain through the artery.

Free from contamination caused by harmful bacteria, viruses, or other microorganisms.
Example: I made an aseptic hand washing.

A membranous sac for temporary retention of urine.
Example: I need to pee, my bladder is full.

A doctor specializing in the care of women during pregnancy, childbirth and the recuperative period following delivery.
Example: I will work with the obstetrician, he is the one who gives the results of my examinations, to the patient.

spleen

A large, highly vascular lymphoid organ, lying in the human body to the left of the stomach below the diaphragm, serving to store blood, disintegrate old blood.
Example: I have to do a sonogram to see if his spleen has ruptured.

Stenosis
noun
The abnormal narrowing of a passage in the body.
Example: My patient has a bad blood flow in her right arm because she has a stenosis in one of her arteries.

A specified area, such as within a tray or a sterile towel, that in considered free of microorganisms.
Example: So, the radiologist can do injections, I need to prepare the sterile field.

Example: I almost broke my ankle, there is a lot of swelling.

Example: I found a tumor on my patient's liver.

A technique using echos of ultrasound pulses to delineate objects or areas of different density in the body.
Example: I'm going to be able to do ultrasonography at my job, when I graduate.

An oscillating sound pressure wave with a frequency greater than the upper limit of the human hearing range.
Example: I can't hear ultrasound but elephants and mice can.

A blood vessel that carries blood toward the heart.
Example: Blood goes to the heart by going through the veins.

The series of articulated vertebrae, separated by intervertebral disks and held together by muscles and tendons, that extends from the cranium to the coccyx.
Example: I have a sharp pain in my vertebral column.
