This glossary will be mainly used to help me find new words and build a better understanding of policing. Throughout this glossary, I will write about my field of study, which is Police Technology, and what I do at school. I've been in the program for one year, and I am starting my second year at the college Ahuntsic.
This glossary will be for the future students in Police Technology that will have to do a glossary on theirs English classes. This will help them to make theirs.
The method I used to find my words on my glossary was quite simple. I just checked at page 309 on Actively Engaged Online to see words related to my field of study, and choose the ones that I though were the most interesting ones.

A person or persons charged with a crime.
Example: He was accused of stealing the money.

assault
noun
Assault is a criminal act in which a person intentionally causes fear of physical harm or offensive contact to another person.
Example: Only an ASSAULT that would have dire consequences, with no hope of recovery for the victim, can justify the killing of another human being.

bulletproof vest
noun
Bulletproof vest is a piece of equipment primarily intended to protect the chest, abdomen, and back from firearm fire by preventing bullet penetration and absorbing its impact.
Example: The police officer was shot several times, but survived because he was wearing a bulletproof vest.

A piece of evidence or information used in the detection of a crime or solving of a mystery.
Example: This is where geladas could provide us with a CLUE to the answer, as mentioned previously geladas live in the largest societies second to humans.

An official who investigates violent, sudden, or suspicious deaths.
Example: The issue of a death certificate is difficult without an established diagnosis and the CORONER must decide whether a post-mortem is required.

corruption

Corruption is the perversion or criminal offence committed by a person or organisation entrusted with a position of authority, in order to acquire illicit advantages or to abuse their power for personal gain.
Example: As social infrastructures can provide incentives for productivity just as they can inhibit innovation by encouraging inefficiency and CORRUPTION, they heavily impact economic growth.

Minor crime, especially that committed by young people.
Example: Finally, studies also show that rejected children are prone to DELINQUENCY and adult criminality.

discretionary power
noun
In administrative law, discretionary power refers to the power of the administration to act, to abstain or to decide with a greater or lesser margin of freedom, depending on an assessment of opportunity. It is opposed to bound competence.
Example: Therefore pupil Z will have to rely on the other issue, that they exercised their DISCRETIONARY POWER for a purpose other than the one they were granted.

domestic violence

Domestic violence is violence committed by someone in the victim's domestic circle. This includes partners and ex-partners, immediate family members, other relatives and family friends.
Example: The irony of the poster is effective showing a smiling model with a black eye as it catches attention thus raising interest in the often hidden issue of DOMESTIC VIOLENCE.

Example: He is understood to have moved since to a mountain hideout, where he is leading the guerrilla war.

Violent or rowdy behavior by young troublemakers, typically in a gang.
Example: The government has threatened to crack down on hooliganism during the World Cup finals.

A person who carries out a formal inquiry or investigation.
Example: The child was recorded within her natural home environment, without INVESTIGATOR interference, whilst going about a typical day's activity.

A breach of traffic laws which occurs while the driver's vehicle is in motion.
Example: Traffic cameras can catch moving violations such as speeding and running red lights.

Example: They used tear gas and night sticks to try to quell the disturbance.

A police raid is a police intervention most often carried out early in the morning or late at night with the aim of creating surprise among the intended targets, which may allow the seizure of smuggled goods or the obtaining of clues.
Example: A police raid leaves her homeless and adrift in a country where she barely speaks the language.

Example: If however, they committed the two acts simultaneously, and were subsequently convicted of ROBBERY, their maximum sentence would be life.

Example: The consequences of the U.S. response to the terrorist attacks of September 2001 will ramify for decades.
